| Organizations no longer compete as independent entities, but as chains (Christopher, 1998; Cox, 1999; Lambert, Cooper, 2000). Consequently, chain strategies became more important in creating competitive advantage (Vickery et al., 2003; Gunasekaran et al., 2004). | The study of the Linkages between Child Nutrition and Agricultural Growth (LICNAG) seeks to understand the positive and negative repercussions that agricultural-led growth has on children's health and nutritional status. The project's goal is to identify means of strengthening positive linkages between agricultural development and factors that influence child health and nutritional status. | The dramatic rise in world food prices since 2007 has commanded the world’s attention. However, in recent months, world food prices have fallen almost as rapidly as they had risen in late 2007 and early 2008, yet as is demonstrated in this report, domestic food price levels in many eastern and southern African markets are not closely tracking world prices. Fertilizer prices remain at unprecedentedly high levels and may have a critical influence on future food production levels in the region. | This study presents the empirical results of estimating the household broiler meat expenditure pattern in the western region using the 1977-78 United States Department of Agriculture Nationwide Food Consumption Survey. The effects of assuming homoscedasticity and heteroscedasticity in the tobit model on resulting estimates are discussed in terms of estimated coefficients, marginal effects, and elasticities. Based on the strength of the sample data, the results suggest that specification of the homoscedastic model should be rejected in favor of the heteroscedastic model, implying that the validity of homoscedasticity should not be routinely accepted without testing when applying tobit procedure to analyze survey data. |

| A myriad of local, state, and federal laws and regulations exist with the intent to assure consumers a "safe" food supply. This paper addresses some of the economic aspects of federal food safety laws and regulations. A brief summary of federal food safety legislation and programs is offered, with some assessment of issues which impact on the performance of these programs. Finally, broad alternatives to current federal programs are enumerated along with each alternative's potential consequences in economic terms. |

| Quantile Regression methods have much to offer the investigation of the determinants of dietary intake. Dietary inadequacy or excess occurs at the tails of nutrient and food intakes, and it seems intuitive that intake responses in these areas will differ from elsewhere along the intake distribution. We apply quantile regression to examine the drivers of a key aspect of dietary health, fat density of energy intake in China. The sample of 2612 individuals between the ages of 20 and 45 is derived from the China Health and Nutrition Survey.
