The effect of different fertilisers on hygienic quality of lettuce Organic Eprints
Rattler, Sabine; Thiel, Barbara; Köpke, Ulrich.
Abstract – The effect of different fertiliser types (cal-cium ammonium nitrate, fresh farmyard manure, composted farmyard manure and nettle extract) on the hygienic quality of fresh and washed lettuce was tested in two trials in summer 2004 and 2005. The hygienic quality was described by total aerobic bacte-rial count and level of coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli, Salmonella Enteritidis, Enterobacteriaceae. No Salmonella Enteritidis was detected in any sample. E. coli was isolated independent of the fertiliser type in low concentrations. The total aerobic bacterial count, the levels of Enterobacteriaceae and coliform bacteria tended to be lower after application of mineral fertil-iser but on a very low level. The washing process had no significant...

Potenziale im Informationsmanagement in ökologischproduzierenden Ketten der Schweinefleischerzeugung Organic Eprints
Hoffmann, Christa; Doluschitz, Reiner.
EU regulation 834/2007 harmonises the reglementations for the organic production within the EU. Nevertheless, due to national distinctions, the European organic pork production differs in structure of their supply chains (heterogeneity of production and processing). A broad spectrum in characteristics of organic meat programs are consequences. As a result of increasing requirements to quality assurance of products (such as EU regulation 178/2002), traceability becomes more important. Hence, the relevant information has to be selected and data have to be evaluated. These challenges also have to be managed by organic pig producers. A well structured information management, not only internal, but also inter-organisational is essential. This study...

QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF INTEGRATED, ORGANIC AND BIODYNAMIC WINE USING IMAGE FORMING METHODS Organic Eprints
Fritz, Jürgen; Athmann, Miriam; Meissner, Georg; Köpke, Ulrich.
Nine encoded wine samples from a German long-term field trial on the comparison of different cultivation systems were examined with the image forming methods biocrystallization, capillary dynamolysis and circular chromatography. The images of the encoded samples were i. differentiated into three groups of images with similar form expression, ii. characterised as ‘fresh – aged’ based on a catalogue of reference images, iii. ranked (according to the quality characterization) and iv. assigned to the different cultivation systems (classified). Images gained with samples from integrated farming showed more structures indicating enhanced aging compared with the samples from organic and especially from biodynamic origin. Based on these observations, a correct...

MAKRO KİRLENMENİN MİKRO KİRLENMEYE ETKİSİ VE BUNA BAĞLI DEĞİŞEN BESLENME MODELLERİ Organic Eprints
Bulbul, Miyase.
As the world population and industrialization increase, the toxicity of life on earth also increases. This toxicity that disturbs the ecosystem of nature, also leaks into human biosystems. Outer environmental pollution is directly proportioned to internal pollution. The pollution of air, water and food causes our blood, tissues and cells to be polluted. No medicine or operation can correct this situation because the reason is not a bacteria, a microbe, a virus or the genes. The problem is that the refining mechanism of the body is not working properly and the toxins from the outside world get accumulated, poisoning the blood and creating a suitable environment for diseases. The wide range of names of diseases do not matter, the real reason is always the...

Occurrence and level of patulin contamination in conventional and organic apple juices marketed in Italy Organic Eprints
Spadaro, Dr. Davide; Ciavorella, Dr. Annalisa; Frati, Dr. Sandro; Garibaldi, Dr. Angelo; Gullino, Dr. Maria Lodovica.
A survey on the occurrence of patulin was conducted during 2005 on conventional (98 samples) and organic apple juices (37 samples) marketed in Italy. Patulin could be quantified in 34.8% of the samples ranging from 1.58 to 55.41 g kg-1. With the exception of one sample, the level of patulin was lower than 50 μg kg-1, the maximum permitted threshold in fruit juices according to the European legislation. A similar incidence of positive samples was found in conventional and organic apple based juices, and the magnitude between the mean contamination levels, although higher in organic (10.92 g kg-1) than in conventional juices (4.77g kg-1), was not statistically significant (P=0.771; Mann-Whitney test). The current study was undertaken also to investigate...

Deposition of carotenoids in egg yolk by short-term supplement of coloured carrot (Daucus carota) varieties as forage material for egg-laying hens Organic Eprints
Hammershoj, Marianne; Kidmose, Ulla; Steenfeldt, Sanna.
BACKGROUND: Supplying egg-laying hens with different forage materials may influence egg production and quality. The aim of this study was to examine the short-term effects of standard feed plus 70 g day−1 per hen of three coloured carrot varieties (orange, yellow and purple) as forage material in comparison with a standard feed control on egg production, egg yolk colour and deposition of carotenoids in the yolk. RESULTS: Carrot supplementation reduced feed intakes significantly, but not on a dry matter basis. Orange carrot treatment significantly reduced egg mass production, whereas yellow and purple carrot treatments did not differ from the control. Egg and yolk weights of all carrot-supplemented treatmentswere significantly lower than those of the...

Methodenentwicklung zur Qualitätsbeschreibung von Gemüse - 1. Mitteilung: Gewebepermeabilität von mit Gammastrahlung behandelten Möhren Organic Eprints
Hagel, Ingo.

Dependent on dietary treatments of mothers, rats showed individual preference of diets containing ingredients produced with different cultivation strategies Organic Eprints
Yong, C.; Halekoh, Ulrich; Jørgensen, Henry; Lauridsen, Charlotte.
Three diets were prepared with ingredients cultivated by each of three different farming systems, low input of fertilizer without pesticides (LIminusP), low input of fertilizer and high input of pesticides (LIplusP), and high input of fertilizer and high input of pesticides (HIplusP). A preference test was conducted to investigate whether rats could distinguish among the three iso-energetic and iso-nitrogeneous diets, and the influence of the mothers’ diet was accordingly studied with regard to the food choice of the progeny. The experimental diets contained potatoes, carrots, peas, green kales, apples, and rapeseed oil and were formulated to meet the NRC requirements for growing rats by mixing. Rats were weaned from dams, which had been fed one of the...

Entwicklung der Methode Biokristallisation für Milchproben Organic Eprints
Wohlers, Jenifer; Kahl, Johannes; Ploeger, Angelika.
This study deals with the question under which circumstances (concerning milk and CuCl2-concentration per picture) and with which variation the method of biocrystallisa-tion is able to distinguish different milk qualities. Milk qualities are UHT- and raw milk as well as milk from the beginning (A-milk) and ending (E-milk) of lactation. A matrix from different mixing ratios showed that milk qualities are best visually differentiated by 350µL milk and 175mg CuCl2 per plate. However there exists a certain variation in repeatedly produced pictures of one quality. Therefore 38% of the A- and E-milk-pictures were sorted out because of technical errors (unusual morphology). With 42% of the pictures the two samples were successfully differentiated by describing...

PhytoMilk: Effects of botanical composition and harvest system of legume/grass silage on fatty acid, α-tocopherol and β-carotene concentration in organic forage and milk Organic Eprints
Höjer, Annika; Martinsson, Kjell; Jensen, Søren K.; Gustavsson, Anne-Maj.
Red clover and high proportion of forage in dairy cow diet increases the concentration of bioactive substances in milk, e.g. unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants. In the present experiment twenty-four Swedish Red dairy cows were fed three silages in a Latin Square design to study the effect of silage botanical composition and harvest time on milk fatty acid, α-tocopherol and β-carotene concentration. The silages were red clover/grass silage (mixture of first and second cut), red clover/grass silage (mixture of first, second and third cut) and birdsfoot trefoil/grass silage (mixture of first and second cut). Botanical composition and harvest system affected silage vitamin and fatty acid concentration with higher concentrations of α-linolenic acid,...
