Effect of moisture content on the physical properties of mung bean varieties grown in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Nigeria CIGR Journal
Ikegwu, Onyekachi John.
Some selected physical properties of five varieties of mung bean grain seeds (EBSUpant1, EBSUpant2, EBSUpant3, EBSUpant4, and EBSUpant5) grown by the Department of Crop and Landscape Management, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, such as geometric properties (linear dimensions, sphericity, geometric and arithmetic mean diameters and surface area), gravimetric properties (true density, bulk density and porosity) and frictional properties (angles of repose and coefficient of friction) were determined as a function of moisture content in the range of 8.59 to 21.48, 8.35 to 20.90, 8.48 to 21.20, 8.69 to 21.73, and 8.88 to 22.20 % (w.b.), respectively. The results showed that the mean values of all geometric properties increased with increasing moisture...

Determination of some engineering properties of parsley (Petroselinum crispum L.) seeds and modeling CIGR Journal
Taheri, Mojtaba; Mirzabe, Amir Hossein; Mansouri, Ali; Aliakbari, Ali Reza.
To design the planting, separating, threshing, sizing and packing machines for agricultural products, physical and mechanical properties of the products should be known. In this work some physical properties of parsley seeds were studied. Dimensional parameters including three principle dimensions, geometric mean diameter, equivalent diameter, arithmetic mean diameter, sphericity, volume, surface area, projected area, flakiness ratio and elongation ratio were measured using image processing technique. Also length, width and thickness distributions of parsley seeds were modeled using Gamma, Generalized Extreme Value and Weibull distributions. Gravimetrical properties including mass of single seed, thousand seed mass, bulk density, true density and porosity...

Parboiling Duration Effects on Physical Properties of African Breadfruit Seed CIGR Journal
Obi, Okey Francis; Okechukwu, Michael Emeka.
Abstract Parboiling is a pre-dehulling operation and, the effect on the physical properties of African breadfruit seed (var. africana) was investigated. Freshly extracted seeds were parboiled for 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes, and their physical properties determined. It was observed that parboiling time had a significant effect (p<0.05) on all the physical properties of African breadfruit seeds investigated. The moisture content of the seed ranged from 32.92±0.23 to 50.78±0.19 % (w.b.) as the parboiling time increased. Generally, it was observed that the mean values observed for the physical dimensions (axial dimensions, mean diameters, sphericity, aspect ratio and surface area) increased from 0 to 10 min. parboiling time after which the...

Effect of moisture content on physical properties of bush mango (Irvingia gabonensis) nut CIGR Journal
AVIARA, NDUBISI A.; iyilade, Idowu A.; Aremu, Ademola K; Oyeniyi, Samuel K.
The effect of moisture content on some physical properties of Bush Mango (Irvingia gabonensis) nut was studied at four moisture levels in the range of 7.52% - 20.6% (d.b). Results showed that the length, width and thickness of nut increased from 37.84 to 50.16 mm, 30.23 to 42.62 mm and 19.25 to 28.15 mm respectively, as moisture content increased in the above range. Nut sphericity decreased from 76.2% to 69.5% as moisture content increased. One thousand seed weight, bulk density, true density and angle of repose increased from 6.634 to 9.158 kg, 756.7 to 1095 kgm-3, 984.4 to 1095kgm-3 and 25.3 to 38.9o respectively, in the above moisture range. Static coefficient of friction on different surfaces increased in the order of fiber glass (0.378 to 0.394),...

Effect of moisture content on engineering properties of oats (Avena sativa L.) CIGR Journal
BRAR, HARPREET SINGH; SIDHU, GAGANDEEP KAUR; SINGH, AMARJEET.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of moisture content on engineering properties of OL-09 variety of oat grains. Different engineering properties such as length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, volume, surface area, sphericity, bulk density, true density, porosity, angle of repose and angle of internal and external friction were determined in a moisture range of 8%-14% (wet basis, w.b) using standard methods. The physical properties such as length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, volume, surface area and sphericity significantly (P <0.05) increased from 15.01 to 16.19 mm, 3.06 to 3.60 mm, 2.78 to 3.11 mm, 5.03 to 5.65 mm, 37.00 to 52.98 mm3, 76.03 to 94.80 mm2 and 33.58% to 35.01%, respectively as the...

Determining dimensional, gravimetrical and frictional properties of red radish seeds (Raphanus Sativus L.) as a function of moisture content CIGR Journal
Mirzabe, Amir Hossein; Taheri, Mojtaba; Asaei, Habil; Kianmehr, Mohammad Hossein.
To design the planting, separating, threshing, sizing and packing machines for agricultural products, physical and mechanical properties of the products should be known. In this paper, some physical properties of red radish seeds were studied. Dimensional parameters, when moisture content equals to 5.65% based on dry bases (d.b), were measured using image processing technique. Effects of moisture content on gravimetrical and frictional properties of the seeds, including mass of single seed, 1000-unit seed, bulk density, true density, porosity, static coefficient of friction on various surfaces, and angle of repose based on pouring, Hele-Shaw, empting and filling methods were studied. Effects of volume of the container (150, 350, 550 and 750 mL) and height...
