Abstract: The objective of this work was to prepare a prediction model for the phenology of grapevine cultivars (Bordô, Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato Embrapa, Paulsen 1103, SO4, and IAC 572) using hot water treatment. The heat treatment with hot water consisted of combinations of three temperatures (50, 53, and 55°C) and three time periods (30, 45, and 60 min), with or without previous hydration for 30 min. After the treatments, the cuttings were planted in the field and their phenological development was evaluated during two months. The six studied cultivars presented different responses to the effects of the factors temperature and time, but did not differ significantly regarding hydration. It was possible to develop a mathematical model for the use of hot... |

ABSTRACT Several complications can arise, either directly or indirectly, from implementation of measures to correct soil acidity in established fruit orchards, such as impaired roots, lower root volume, risk of plant infection, propagation of diseases, promotion of pest development (especially nematodes), and soil disaggregation and compaction. These factors can have a negative effect on crop yield. Therefore, it becomes critical to implement an effective method of neutralizing soil acidity, especially at the level of the tree roots. To assess the effect that the rates and forms of limestone applied on the soil surface have on soil fertility and on nutrition and yield of guava, an experiment was conducted in a commercial orchard. A randomized block... |

Abstract The amount of nutrients accumulated and distributed in young jabuticaba trees are not yet well known. The aim of this work was to verify biomass production, nutrient accumulation and distribution in ‘Paulista’ and ‘Sabará’ jabuticaba seedlings. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse and seedlings were propagated by seeds and transplanted after 150 days into pots containing perlite and cultivated for 450 days in nutrient solution. Nutrient accumulation and distribution in the different plant organs (root, stem and leaves) were evaluated every 90 days. The mean total nutrient accumulation of ‘Paulista’ and ‘Sabará’ seedlings at 450 days were: N (706 and 611), P (81 and 62), K (541 and 409), Ca (488 and 424), Mg (66 and 54) and S (93 and 92) in... |

Abstract We carried out greenhouse experiment to evaluate the effect of silicon (Si) on growth and mineral nutrition of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) submitted to saline stress in a nutritive solution. The experiment comprised a completely randomized design in a 5x4 factorial scheme: five NaCl concentrations (0; 7.5; 15; 30 and 60 mmol L-1) and four SiO2 concentrations (0; 0.5; 1.0 and 1.5 mmol L-1) with four replicates. At the end of 35 days, we measured stem diameter, leaves, stem, and roots dry matter, as well as the macronutrient, Na, Cl, and Si leaf accumulation in plants. In most cases, the increase in NaCl supply in a nutritive solution reduced the dry matter of roots, stem, and leaves. The SiO2 supply attenuated the effect on higher... |
