Molluscan assemblages from the marine Holocene of Uruguay: composition, geochronology, and paleoenvironmental signals Ameghiniana
Martínez,Sergio; Rojas,Alejandra; Ubilla,Martín; Verde,Mariano; Perea,Daniel; Piñeiro,Graciela.
Dates of marine Holocene molluscs from Uruguay (Villa Soriano Formation) range from 6849 to 1858 cal. years BP. There are no significative gaps among the different ages obtained, with the exception of the interval 2276-2830 calculated years BP. Two kinds of concentrations are distinguished: autochthonous, for which a low energy depositional environment is inferred, and parautochthonous, deposited in foreshore and nearshore high-energy environments. Results of different types of multivariate analyses on presence-absence and abundance data show that only three localities are clearly differentiated from the others. The discrimination of two of them (Arazatí, Las Cañas) is explained by the presence of only one or two species, but the third (Punta Rasa) is the...

Abstract: Coastal ecosystems of northeastern Brazil have important biodiversity with regard to marine mollusks, which are insufficiently studied. Here we provide an inventory of mollusks from two sites in the estuary of the Paraíba River. Mollusks were collected in 2014 and 2016 on the coast and sandbanks located on the properties of Treze de Maio and Costinha de Santo Antônio. The malacofaunal survey identified 12 families, 20 genera and 21 species of bivalves, 17 families, 19 genera and 20 species of gastropods and one species of cephalopod. Bivalves of the family Veneridae Rafinesque, 1815 were the most representative, with a total of five species. Gastropods of the family Littorinidae Children, 1834 had the greatest species richness. The most abundant...

Addisonia enodis (Vetigastropoda: Lepetelloidea) associated with an elasmobranch egg capsule from the South Atlantic Ocean and the discovery of the species from deep waters off northeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Lima,Silvio Felipe Barbosa; Simone,Luiz Ricardo Lopes; Guimarães,Carmen Regina Parisotto.
Abstract A gastropod specimen of the subfamily Addisoniinae Dall, 1882 is reported here for the first time associated with an elasmobranch egg capsule from the South Atlantic Ocean. A specimen of Addisonia enodis Simone, 1996 was found living inside an egg capsule of Atlantoraja castelnaui (Miranda Ribeiro, 1907) (Arhynchobatidae Fowler, 1934) from shallow waters off southeastern Brazil. Previous studies have reported the association of members of the genus Addisonia Dall, 1882 only with the egg capsules of sharks from the family Scyliorhinidae Gill, 1862 and skates from the family Rajidae de Blainville, 1816. Other specimens of A. enodis are also here reported to occur off northeastern Brazil based on shells found in deep waters off the state of Sergipe,...

Occurrence of Naididae (Annelida: Oligochaeta) from three gastropod species in irrigation fields in southeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Martins,Renato Tavares; Alves,Roberto da Gama.
In the present study we report the occurrence of three Naididae species from three gastropod mollusk species. The species Dero (Dero) righii was found from mollusks of the genus Biomphalaria. Nais communis was found from Biomphalaria sp. and Aplexa rivalis. Chaetogaster limnaei was found from Biomphalaria sp., Aplexa rivalis and Lymnaea columella. In Brazil, previous studies have reported the occurrence of Chaetogaster limnaei from Biomphalaria solely, while Nais communis have been found from Pomacea bridgesii and Dero (Dero) righii in the sediment of aquatic habitats in Mato Grosso do Sul. Our results indicate that, due to their locomotion, naidids are capable of colonizing different substrates in aquatic environments.

Freshwater mollusks from three reservoirs of Piauí, northeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Silva,Edson Lourenço da; Rocha,Adriana Josefa da; Leal,Manuella Feitosa; Santos,Orianna dos; Sousa,João Hemerson de; Silva,Antônia Rafaela Viana da; Dantas,Karina Ketelen Silva; Rulim,Erika Maria Matos; Castro,Emerson Santos; Pacheco,Ana Carolina Landim; Pinheiro,Tamaris Gimenez.
Abstract: The pronounced dry season determines the characteristics of the semiarid region of Brazil. Numerous small reservoirs are built to overcome this condition, accumulating multiple uses and causing important changes in the landscape and the local biota. Considering the limited amount of information about the malacofauna of reservoirs, mainly in the Northeast region of the country, this inventory provides a list of mollusks from three important reservoirs located in the city of São Julião, state of Piauí. The collections were carried out monthly between May/2017 and April/2018, sampling a total of 11,149 mollusks, corresponding to the species Melanoides tuberculata (Müller, 1774) (n = 9,724), Biomphalaria straminea (Dunker, 1848) (n = 1,361) and...

On the oviposition and egg masses of Conus regius (Neogastropoda: Conidae) from northeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Gonçalves,Pricila Bento; Lima,Silvio Felipe Barbosa; Oliveira,Geraldo Semer Pomponet; Lucena,Rudá Amorim.
Abstract Characteristics of the egg masses of Conus regius Gmelin, 1791 are described and figured for the first time for the coast of Brazil based on a female specimen found in the process of oviposition during the day in the state of Bahia, northeastern Brazil. Two clusters of egg masses were found in the subtidal zone of Itapuã beach attached to rocky substrate in a completely unprotected site. Oviposition likely began at least one day earlier, since the specimen had already affixed an entire egg mass and was ovipositing a second cluster at the time it was found. The egg masses were arranged in short, irregular rows of three to nine closely spaced capsules in parallel and facing the same direction. One egg mass cluster consisted of 34 capsules. Conus...

EXPLOTACIÓN, USOS Y ESTADO ACTUAL DE LA CIGUA O BURGAO CITTARIUM PICA (MOLLUSCA: GASTROPODA: TROCHIDAE)EN LA COSTA CONTINENTAL DEL CARIBE COLOMBIANO Boletín de Investigaciones
Osorno Arango,Adriana; Díaz Merlano,Juan M..

Biogeographic and species richness patterns of Gastropoda on the southwestern Atlantic BJB
FLOETER,S. R.; SOARES-GOMES,A..
Patterns of richness and biogeography of Gastropoda molluscs were determined based on lists of species from five sites along the southwestern Atlantic. The analysis of the distribution patterns of these sites confirmed the existence of a broader transition zone between southern Espírito Santo State (21°S) and Rio Grande do Sul State (32°S). This zone is very heterogeneous, presenting a low endemism rate and a significant number of species common to the near provinces, and does not show enough consistency to be considered as an independent biogeographic province as proposed by Palacio (1980). Observing the distribution of species along the southwestern Atlantic we find an increase in the proportion of species with greatest latitudinal ranges (occurring from...

CHILEAN MARINE MOLLUSCA OF NORTHERN PATAGONIA COLLECTED DURING THE CIMAR-10 FJORDS CRUISE Gayana
Cárdenas,Javiera; Aldea,Cristian; Valdovinos,Claudio.
The tip of the South American cone is one of the most interesting Subantarctic areas, both biogeographically and ecologically. Nonetheless, knowledge of the area's biodiversity, in particular that of the subtidal marine habitats, remains poor. Therefore, in 2004, a biodiversity research project was carried out as a part of the cruise Cimar-10 Fjords, organized and supported by the Chilean National Oceanographic Committee (CONA). The results of the subtidal marine mollusk surveys are presented herein. The samples were collected aboard the Agor 60 "Vidal Gormaz" in winter 2004. The study area covered the northern Chilean Patagonia from Seno de Relocanví (41°31'S) to Boca del Guafo (43°49'S), on the continental shelf from 22 to 353 m depth. The Mollusca were...

Modelisation bioeconomique de la pecherie de buccin (Buccinum undatum L.: Gastropoda) du port de Granville (Manche ouest). Elements de gestion de la ressource. ArchiMer
Santarelli, L; Gros, Philippe.
The totality of French landings of whelk (Buccinum undatum L.) is assignable to the fisheries of the Normand-Breton Gulf, western Channel. The aim of this paper is to forecast economic rent of the potters of the harbour of Granville, as a function of the two main variates open to supervision: the size of the fishing fleet, and the number of whelk-pots per ship. In order to assess the biological and financial consequences of a prospective development, a deterministic model of the fleet-resource system is proposed. Results of simulations emphasize the sharpness of the rent-dissipation problem under existing tendencies. Therefore some recommendations are put forward to derive a fishery policy that would enable the system to be maintained near optimal...
