Genetic analysis and gene fine mapping of aroma in rice (Oryza sativa L. Cyperales, Poaceae) Genet. Mol. Biol.

We investigated inheritance and carried out gene fine mapping of aroma in crosses between the aromatic elite hybrid rice Oryza sativa indica variety Chuanxiang-29B (Ch-29B) and the non-aromatic rice O. sativa indica variety R2 and O. sativa japonica Lemont (Le). The F1 grains and leaves were non-aromatic while the F2 non-aroma to aroma segregation pattern was 3:1. The F3 segregation ratio was consistent with the expected 1:2:1 for a single recessive aroma gene in Ch-29B. Linkage analysis between simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and the aroma locus for the aromatic F2 plants mapped the Ch-29B aroma gene to a chromosome 8 region flanked by SSR markers RM23120 at 0.52 cM and RM3459 at 1.23 cM, a replicate F2 population confirming these results. Analysis of genetic main effects and genotype × environment (GE) interaction effects for the fruit shape traits fruit length and fruit circumference in the sponge gourd (Luffa cylindrical (L) Roem. Violales, Cucurbitaceae) was conducted for diallel cross data from two planting seasons. A genetic model including fruit direct effects and maternal effects and unconditional and conditional variances analysis was used to evaluate the development of the fruit at four maturation stages. Use of AFLPS to distinguish landraces of pejibaye (Bactris gasipaes) in brazilian Amazonia Scientia Agricola

Although the first inhabitants of western Amazonia domesticated pejibaye (Bactris gasipaes Kunth, Palmae) or peach palm for its fruits, today it is widely planted for its heart-of-palm. Like other domesticates, pejibaye presents a complex hierarchy of landraces developed before the conquest of the Americas. The existence of three landraces (Pará, Solimões, Putumayo) was proposed along the Amazonas and Solimões Rivers, Brazil, based on morphological characteristics. There are some questions remaining about the intermediate landrace being an artifact of the morphometric analysis. Knowledge on the genetic system controlling the quantitative traits is important for devising an efficient selection program through the use of a suitable mating design. Forty five Fis were generated by crossing 10 germplasm lines of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Molecular identification and mapping of a novel stripe rust resistance gene in wheat resistance line CH5389 Ciência Rural

ABSTRACT: Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis is one of the most destructive diseases of wheat worldwide. CH5389 is a wheat-Thinopyrum intermedium derived line conferring stripe rust resistance. Genetic analyses of seedlings of F2 populations and F2:3 families developed by crossing CH5389 and susceptible common wheat revealed that stripe rust resistance in CH5389 was controlled by a single dominant gene that was designated YrCH5389. Eight SSR and EST-PCR polymorphic markers on chromosome 3AL were identified in F2 population of CH5389/Taichung29.
