Petunia x hybrida, a floral summer of a economical importance in Buenos Aires, is nowadays produced with imported seed. The research presented is focused on the study of the feasibility to obtain locally competitive seed. The length of the floral pipe is a relevant character so the assay was designed in order to estimate the heredability, the number of genes intervener and the interactions with the date. The assay began with a F1 purchased from United States. In 2003, the F1 and F2 were sowed,739 individuals of F2 were placed in pots in three dates: 12/6, 26/6 and 8/7/2003 that were considered as blocks I, II and III respectively in a completely randomized design. It was assumed that the homocigotas would be situated in the tales of the F2 distribution,... |

The objective of this research was to estimate genetic parameters for the traits egg weight, egg production in 189 days and age at first egg in three laying quails and one meat line of quails. Data was analyzed by Bayesian procedures using Gibbs sampling. The heritability estimates for egg weight, egg production in 189 days and age at first egg, were, respectively, for yellow line, 0.31, 0.84 and 0.53; for blue line, 0.14, 0.82 and 0.60; for red line, 0.70, 0.96 and 0.75; and for meat line, 0.73, 0.96 and 0.72. Genetic correlation between egg weight and egg production in 189 days, egg weight and day at first egg and egg production in 189 days and day at first egg were for yellow line, 0.58, -0.77 and -0.90; for blue line, 0.09, -0.01 and -0.95; for red... |

Advanced variance-covariance structures are commonly used in genetic evaluation of crops to account for micro-site variability and achieve higher accuracy of predictions to increase selection efficiency. Various genetic variance-covariance structures were explored to predict best linear unbiased genetic merits of 453 loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) cloned progeny tested at 16 different locations in the southern U.S. Statistical models were compared using model fit statistics, variance components and genetic parameters. Among the models explored, spatial autoregressive error correlation with independent residual term for the R side with a factor analytic structure for the G side of the mixed model was superior. The model produced one of the smallest fit... |

The aim of the study was to assess inbreeding depression and determine genetic components in landrace populations of popcorn. Six Brazilian popcorn landraces: Amarelo, Beija-Flor, Branco, Rosa-claro, Roxo and Viçosa, were subjected to self-pollination. Experiments with SO populations and their selfing populations (SI) were conducted in a randomized complete block design. The estimates of inbreeding depression varied from 1.2% (popping expansion) to 79% (grain yield). The gene action was predominantly additive for plant height, ear height and hundred-grain-weight. The dominance genetic effects were important for index of prolificacy and grain yield. The genetic effect of popping expansion was bidirectional with nuil dominance and a predominance of additive... |

Clonal families from a broad genetic base population in the Potato Breeding Program at the Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA), Brazil, were used in this trials. Twenty-five families were assessed in a 5 x 5 triple lattice design. Each plot consisted of 30 clones distributed in three rows of ten plants. Tuber yield per plant, percentage of large tubers, mean weight of large tubers, mean medium-sized tuber weight and tuber specific gravity were measured. Three hundred experiments were simulated varying the family sizes from three to 90 clones. The coefficients of experimental variation (CVe), the coefficients of genetic variation (CVg), heritabilities for family mean and the CVg/CVe ratio were estimated. Genetic parameters were stabilized with family... |
