O produtor de milho verde busca a profissionalização de sua produção, a fim de fornecer produtos de alta qualidade e em quantidade suficiente para suprir os mercados mais exigentes. Para se alcançar esse objetivo, devem ser adotadas técnicas de manejo que proporcionem altas produtividades sem que sejam afetadas negativamente as características comerciais. Com o objetivo de avaliar a aptidão de cultivares e o efeito da população de plantas na produção de milho verde, foi conduzido um experimento em Ponta Grossa, Estado do Paraná. O uso de híbridos e genótipos de milho resistentes aos nematóides formadores de galhas em sistemas de rotação de culturas mantém sua população em níveis baixos, diminuindo as perdas e possibilitando, posteriormente, o uso de genótipos mais suscetíveis. No presente trabalho, foi avaliada a resistência de 18 genótipos de milho ao parasitismo de M. paranaensis e a M. incógnita raça 1 em casa-de-vegetação. As plantas foram inoculadas com 5.000 ovos e eventuais juvenis dos respectivos nematóides. Estimation of genetic distance among genotypes of caraway (Carum carvi L.) using RAPD-PCR Agronomy

In order to estimate genetic diversity among starting materials and breeding strains of caraway, a collection of 17 accessions from botanical gardens in Europe, two cultivars ‘Rekord’ and ‘Kończewicki’, and four own breeding strains were analyzed by RAPD-PCR. The representative samples, each of five individual plants of accession, cultivar or strain, were taken from young rosette leaves. Forty of Genset Oligos RAPD primers were used for analysis and eight of them produced clear and reproducible banding patterns. Grain yield (GY) and drought tolerance of recombinant chromosome substitution lines (RCSLs) derived from the cross between Hordeum vulgareL.subsp. spontaneum (K. Harrington, were studied in two contrasting environments, one with water stress (WWS) and the other with no water stress (NWS), during three growing seasons, 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. In situ selection of vineyard peach (Prunus pérsica spp. vulgaris Mill.) genotypes was conducted in 2006 and 2007 in the region of Kfusevac (Central Serbia). Identification, observation and recording of the phenological and pomological properties of the highest-quality genotypes were carried out. Twenty-eight genotypes of the highest quality were selected out of 2093 genotypes, based on biological and pomological properties, and compared to those of cv. Redhaven (control). RESUMO O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar os SNPs rs471462296, rs456245081 e rs438495570 do gene DGAT1 em bovinos Nelore. Foram analisados 109 bovinos. A extração do DNA genômico foi realizada do sangue dos animais, usando-se o kit Ilustra Blood Genomic Prep Mini Spin® (GE Healthcare, UK). Considering the proximity of sheep farmers to animals that are possibly diseased or releasing fecal oocysts into the environment and the marked pathogenicity in lambs, the aim of this study was to determine the occurrence and to molecularly characterize the infection by Cryptosporidium spp. in lambs in the South Central region of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Influence of genotype and explant source on indirect organogenesis by in vitro culture of leaves of Melia azedarach L. Biocell

In vitro regeneration of shoots from leaf explants of the Paradise tree (Melia azedarach L.) was studied. Three different portions (proximal portion, distal portion and rachis of the leaflets) of three developmental stages (folded, young still expanding and completely expanded) of leaves of 10 - 15 years old plants of seven genotypes were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (1962) medium (MS) supplemented with 1mg.l-1 benzylaminopurine (BAP) + 0.1mg.l-1 kinetin (KIN) + 3 mg.l-1 adenine sulphate (ADS). CYP2E1 enzyme is related to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) due to its ability for reactive oxygen species production, which can be influenced by polymorphisms in the gene. The aim of this study was to investigate hepatic levels, activity, and polymorphisms of the CYP2E1 gene to correlate it with clinical and histological features in 48 female obese NASH patients. Subjects were divided into three groups: (i) normal; (ii) steatosis; and (iii) steatohepatitis. Efficiency of RAPD and ISSR markers in assessing genetic variation in Arthrocnemum macrostachyum (Chenopodiaceae) BABT

The goal of this study was to investigate the molecular characterization of A. macrostachyum genotypes grown in the Western coast of Syria using RAPD and ISSR techniques. PCR amplifications with 20 RAPD primers gave an average of 9.25 selected markers/ primer, with a maximum of 17 (OPG05) and a minimum of four (OPA02). Percentage of polymorphic bands ranged from 40 to 100% according to RAPD primers tested. Among the 185 selected bands, 160 (84.96%) were polymorphic. OBJECTIVE: To investigates how the use of HIV-1 resistance tests influences physician decision-making. METHODS: Ten experienced reference physicians from the Brazilian Network for Drug Resistance each received ten patients' case histories. The selected patients had experienced at least two virological failures. First, reference physicians were asked to empirically select a new regimen for each patient. Rotavirus is a major cause of infectious diarrhea in infants and young children. The objective of this study was to characterize the genotypes of Human Rotavirus found in children hospitalized with acute diarrhea in the Pediatric Hospital Prof. Hosannah de Oliveira of the UFBA in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, during the years of 1999, 2000 and 2002. Fecal samples were analyzed (n=358) by methods EIARA and SDS-PAGE for detection of Rotavirus. OBJECTIVE: The present study was undertaken to characterize CTX-M ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae collected from hospitals in different cities of Brazil. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a serious public health problem, since 80% to 85% of HCV carriers develop a persistent infection that can progress into liver cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma. Considering that the response of hepatitis C patients to combination therapy with interferon and ribavirin depends on HCV characteristics as well as on host features, we made a retrospective analysis of demographic and anthropometrical data and HCV genotype distribution of chronic hepatitis C patients treated in public and private reference centers in Brazil. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has reduced morbidity and mortality related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, but in spite of this advance, HIV mutations decrease antiretroviral susceptibility, thus contributing to treatment failure in patients. Genotyping HIV-1 allows the selection of new drugs after initial drug failure. This study evaluated the genotypic profile of HIV-1 isolates from treated (drug-experienced) patients in Paraná, Brazil. The prevalence of mutations in reverse transcriptase (RT) and protease (PR) genes were assessed. We analyzed 467 genotypes of patients with HIV-1 viral loads above 1,000 copies/mL.
