| The troglobitic armored catfish, Ancistrus cryptophthalmus (Loricariidae, Ancistrinae) is known from four caves in the São Domingos karst area, upper rio Tocantins basin, Central Brazil. These populations differ in general body shape and degree of reduction of eyes and of pigmentation. The small Passa Três population (around 1,000 individuals) presents the most reduced eyes, which are not externally visible in adults. A small group of Passa Três catfish, one male and three females, reproduced spontaneously thrice in laboratory, at the end of summertime in 2000, 2003 and 2004. | A new species of Rineloricaria Bleeker from the rio Vermelho, Araguaia basin, Goiás, Brazil is described. Rineloricaria osvaldoi, new species, can be distinguished from its congeners by the combination of the following characters: surface of thoracic area trapezoidal with greatest width between pectoral fins, up to 13 premaxillary teeth, largest body width at the section of the canal plate, anterior profile of the head of mature males semicircular in dorsal view. Although eight genera of Loricariinae are known from the rio Araguaia basin, R. lanceolata was only species of Rineloricaria previously reported from that basin. Therefore, the discovery of the R. osvaldoi increases the scenery of diversity of Loricariinae within this drainage basin. |

| The Ouvidor River, a tributary of the Upper Paraná River, drains areas covered by cerrado vegetation in Central Brazil. We collected data for environmental variables (water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, turbidity, water velocity, luminosity, channel substrate and width) and anthropogenic perturbations (industry, reservoirs, urban areas) that may structure the fish assemblage in ten stream sites of the Ouvidor River basin. In each stream we delimited one 50 m long site where fish were captured by electrofishing and abiotic data were collected every two month between August 2004 and June 2005.
