Can an increase in nitrogen rate mitigate damages caused by uneven spatial distribution of maize plants at the sowing row? Agronomy
Kolling, Daniel Fernando; Sangoi, Luís; Leolato, Lucieli Santini; Panison, Fernando; Coelho, Antonio Eduardo; Kuneski, Hugo François.
An uneven distribution of maize plants at the sowing row can decrease grain yield. This work was carried out to evaluate the effect of an increasing nitrogen rate on maize agronomic performance under different variation coefficients of plant spatial distributions at the sowing row. The experiment was conducted in Lages, Santa Catarina State, South Brazil. Three variation coefficients (VC) of plant spatial distribution (0, 50, and 100%) were tested. At the 0 level, seeds were evenly distributed 17 cm from each other. In the other treatments with uneven spatial distributions, the distances between two neighbouring seeds ranged from 2 to 54 cm. Four nitrogen side-dress rates (0, 125, 250, and 375 kgN ha-1) were evaluated. The increase in VC of plant spatial...

Soil management and application of agricultural gypsum in a Planosol for soybean cultivation Ciência Rural
Marchesan,Enio; Tonetto,Felipe; Teló,Gustavo Mack; Coelho,Lucas Lopes; Aramburu,Bruno Behenck; Trivisiol,Vinicius Severo.
ABSTRACT: This study investigated the effects of soil management systems, tillage, and application of gypsum agricultural to soil, on soybean development in lowland areas. The experiment was carried out on an Alfisol in a randomized complete block design in a factorial arrangement. The two soil tillage practices were without deep tillage and with deep tillage. Gypsum treatments were no gypsum application, 500kg of gypsum ha-1, 1000kg of gypsum ha-1, and 1500kg of gypsum ha-1. Deep tillage resulted in less soil resistance to root penetration during ryegrass cultivation during the soybean offseason, 11 months after applying the management treatments, resulting in higher dry mass of ryegrass in the offseason and higher soybean yield in the following year.

Use efficiency and responsivity to nitrogen of common bean cultivars Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Leal,Fábio Tiraboschi; Filla,Vinícius Augusto; Bettiol,João Victor Trombeta; Sandrini,Fernando de Oliveira Turci; Mingotte,Fábio Luíz Checchio; Lemos,Leandro Borges.
ABSTRACT Common beans are the main source of protein in underdeveloped countries, and nitrogen (N) is one of the nutrients the most limits the productivity of this crop. This study, under field conditions, aimed to: a) determinate through efficiency indices how N is used by 16 cultivars of common beans; and b) classify these cultivars regarding use efficiency and responsivity to N application. The experimental design was in randomized blocks in split-plot scheme, with four replicates. Main plots consisted of 16 cultivars of common beans commercially classified as ‘Carioca type’. Subplots comprised two rates of N: 20 and 120 kg ha-1 applied as top-dressing. The evaluations were number of pods per plant and grains per pod, hundred-grain weight, shoots dry...
