Weed management strategies for castor bean crops Agronomy
Costa, Augusto Guerreiro Fontoura; Embrapa Algodão; Sofiatti, Valdinei; Embrapa Algodão; Maciel, Cleber Daniel de Góes; Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste; Poletine, Juliana Parisotto; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Sousa, João Igor de; Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste,.
Castor bean crops are agriculturally relevant due to the quality and versatility of their oil, both for the chemical industry and for biodiesel production. Proper weed management is important for both the cultivation and the yield of castor bean crops; therefore, the intention of the present work is to review pertinent information regarding weed management, including the studies regarding weed interference periods, chemical controls for use in different crop production systems and herbicide selectivity, for castor bean crops. Weed science research for castor bean crops is scarce. One of the main weed management challenges for castor bean crops is the absence of herbicides registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MALFS)....

Atrazine and nicosulfuron affect the reproductive fitness of the predator Podisus nigrispinus (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) Anais da ABC (AABC)
REIS,TATIANE C.; SOARES,MARCUS A.; SANTOS,JOSÉ B. DOS; SANTOS,CONCEIÇÃO A. DOS; SERRÃO,JOSE EDUARDO; ZANUNCIO,JOSÉ C.; FERREIRA,EVANDER A..
Abstract Herbicides can impact non-target metabolic pathways in natural enemies and lead to the reduction of these populations in the field. Behavioral characteristics, morphology and histology of reproductive structures and reproduction of females of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) were evaluated under the effect of the herbicides atrazine, nicosulfuron and the mixture of both. The number of mature oocytes per ovary was lower in females exposed to the herbicides atrazine, nicosulfuron and the mixture of both. Herbicides did not affect the longevity and mortality of P. nigrispinus, therefore, they are selective for this predator. On the other hand, herbicides can cause sublethal effects by affecting the reproduction of predators.

Glucose mineralization in soils of contrasting textures under application of S-metolachlor, terbuthylazine, and mesotrione, alone and in a mixture Bragantia
Mendes,Kassio Ferreira; Collegari,Stella Andressa; Pimpinato,Rodrigo Floriano; Tornisielo,Valdemar Luiz.
ABSTRACT Microbial adaptation may occur in surface soils under agricultural uses exposed to herbicides. However, little is known about herbicide mixture effects in the soil, especially in tropical regions like Brazil. The aim of this study was to evaluate glucose mineralization in soils of contrasting textures (sandy clay and sandy loam) from areas cultivated with maize under application of S-metolachlor, terbuthylazine and mesotrione, alone and in a mixture. The methodology was established according to the soil microorganisms: carbon transformation test with 14C-glucose solution (D-[U-14C] glucose) in biometric flasks. After the addition of 14C-glucose, the amount of 14C in cumulative CO2 of microbial respiration was measured several times during the...

Action of Canavalia ensiformis in remediation of contaminated soil with sulfentrazone Bragantia
Madalão,João Carlos; Souza,Matheus Freitas de; Silva,Alberto Antônio; Silva,Daniel Valadão; Jakelaitis,Adriano; Pereira,Gustavo Antônio Mendes.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis) as a potential remediator of sulfentrazone in the soil. The experiment was conducted under field conditions in a complete randomised block design. The treatments consisted of soils with and without herbicide application as well as the absence and presence of C. ensiformis cultivation associated with incorporation into the soil or the removal of shoots of C. ensiformis. Sorghum was planted as a bioindicator to evaluate the remediation efficiency of jack bean. Sulfentrazone application in areas without C. ensiformis cultivation decreased plants stands, productivity, and height of sorghum compared to treatments where C. ensiformis was cultivated. Sorghum cultivated in succession to C....

Increased immunoglobulin production in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) exposed to agrichemicals BJMBR
Kreutz,L.C.; Pavan,T.R.; Alves,A.G.; Correia,A.G.; Barriquel,B.; dos Santos,E.D.; Barcellos,L.J.G..
Fish vaccination has been increasingly exploited as a tool to control pathogen infection. The production of immunoglobulin following vaccination might be affected by several factors such as management procedures, water temperature, and the presence of xenobiotics. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the kinetics of immunoglobulin production in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) inoculated with inactivated Aeromonas hydrophila and kept at two different water temperatures (17.4±0.4° or 21.3±0.3°C). The effect of a second antigen inoculation and exposure of fish to sublethal concentrations of the herbicides atrazine and glyphosate at 10% of the lethal concentration (LC50-96h) on specific serum antibodies were also investigated. Antibodies to A....

Germination and mycelial growth of Bipolaris euphorbiae Muchovej & Carvalho as influenced by herbicides and surfactants BJM
Nemoto,Marta Cecília Mallasen; Nahas,Ely; Pitelli,Robinson Antonio; Coelho,Lisias.
Bipolaris euphorbiae Muchovej & Carvalho can be combined with herbicide in order to control a large spectrum of weed species, being a strong candidate for the biocontrol of Euphorbia heterophylla L. (milk weed). The fungus release can be combined with herbicide in order to control a broader spectrum of weed species. Thus, laboratory experiments were set up to study the feasibility of using tank mixes of B. euphorbiae spores with herbicides or surfactants recommended for soybean. Mycelial growth and conidia germination were evaluated in PDA medium enriched with the herbicides oxasulfuron (80 g/ha), glyphosate (4 L/ha), bentazon (1.5 L/ha), fomesafen (1 L/ha), chlorimuron-ethyl (80 g/ha), lactofen (1 L/ha) and imazetaphyr (1 L/ha), and the...

Simulation of control strategies for decision-making regarding Digitaria sanguinalis in glyphosate-resistant soybeans Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Oreja,Fernando H; Bastida,Fernando; Gonzalez-Andújar,José L.
A bioeconomic model was developed for decision-making regarding large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis) control in glyphosate-resistant soybeans in the Rolling Pampas ofArgentina. The model was used to evaluate the economic returns of four different glyphosate-based strategies for weed control. In the absence of herbicide application (T1), the soil seed bank increases to an equilibrium density of 12,079 seeds m-2 in three years. A single herbicide application during the early stages of the crop (T2), which was intended to be highly effective in the control of an early weed cohort, allows a late, unaffected cohort to produce sufficient seeds to maintain population densities in the soil seed bank. A single, delayed herbicide application (T3), which was...

Herbicides with natural and synthetic biostimulants in spring wheat Ciência Rural
Matysiak,Kinga; Miziniak,Wojciech; Kaczmarek,Sylwia; Kierzek,Roman.
ABSTRACT: Although the knowledge on agricultural using of biostimulants increases, there is still little information on their interactions with other chemicals i.e. herbicides. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of popular herbicides (MCPA + dicamba, dicamba + triasulfuron, florasulam+2,4-D) used with and without biostimulants based on seaweed extract (Kelpak) and nitrophenols (Asahi) on weed control efficiency, yield and quality of the crop. Field trial was carried out in the years 2014 and 2015 in the Institute of Plant Protection - National Research Institute in Poznan (Poland). The experiment was established on spring wheat cv.‘Torridon’, in 4 replications, using randomized block design. In the experiment two variants of application were...

Herbicides inhibit enzymatic systems of plants. Acetolactate synthase (ALS, EC = 4.1.3.18) and 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS, EC 2.5.1.19) are key enzymes for herbicide action. Hundreds of compounds inhibit ALS. This enzyme is highly variable, enabling the selective control of weeds in a number of crops. Glyphosate, the only commercial herbicide inhibiting EPSPS is widely used for non-selective control of weeds in many crops. Recently, transgenic crops resistant to glyphosate were developed and have been used by farmers. The aim of this study was the data mining of eucalypt expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in the FORESTs Genome Project database (<A HREF="https://forests.esalq.usp.br">https://forests.esalq.usp.br</A>) related...
