Castor bean crops are agriculturally relevant due to the quality and versatility of their oil, both for the chemical industry and for biodiesel production. Proper weed management is important for both the cultivation and the yield of castor bean crops; therefore, the intention of the present work is to review pertinent information regarding weed management, including the studies regarding weed interference periods, chemical controls for use in different crop production systems and herbicide selectivity, for castor bean crops. Weed science research for castor bean crops is scarce. One of the main weed management challenges for castor bean crops is the absence of herbicides registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MALFS).... |

Two pot experiments were carried out during two successive winter seasons of (2016 / 2017) and (2017 / 2018) at the green house of National Research Centre (NRC), Giza, Egypt. The experiments were conducted to compare the allelopathic effect of Beta vulgaris (shoot and root aqueous extracts at 3, 6, 9%) to chemical herbicides (clodinafop-Propargyl and Basagran at recommended dose (140 g/fed and 1.5 l/fed, respectively) in controlling weeds (Phalaris minor and Malva parviflora) associated with Lupinus albus plants. Results showed that all applied aqueous extracts caused reduction in two weeds biomass under investigation. Meanwhile, root aqueous extract was more effective than shoot aqueous extract in controlling weeds. It is worthy to mention that phenolic... |

Two field experiments were conducted in two successive seasons, 2015 and 2016, at the experimental farm of the National Research Centre at Nubaria, Egypt, during summer seasons to determine weed management can improve soybean competitiveness with weeds, thus helping to achieve its yield potential. The experiment included three soybean cultivars ( Giza 111, Giza 21 and Crawford) and six weed control treatments, including oxadiargyl, butralin, metribuzin, bentazone + clethodium, two hand and a nonweeded treatment (control). Great reduction in dry weight of broadleaved, grassy and total weeds after 60 and 90 days from sowing was noticed in the plots cultivated with Giza 111 cultivars. Also, Giza 111 cultivars markedly produced greater plant height, SPAD, NAR,... |

Abstract Herbicides can impact non-target metabolic pathways in natural enemies and lead to the reduction of these populations in the field. Behavioral characteristics, morphology and histology of reproductive structures and reproduction of females of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) were evaluated under the effect of the herbicides atrazine, nicosulfuron and the mixture of both. The number of mature oocytes per ovary was lower in females exposed to the herbicides atrazine, nicosulfuron and the mixture of both. Herbicides did not affect the longevity and mortality of P. nigrispinus, therefore, they are selective for this predator. On the other hand, herbicides can cause sublethal effects by affecting the reproduction of predators. |

Fish vaccination has been increasingly exploited as a tool to control pathogen infection. The production of immunoglobulin following vaccination might be affected by several factors such as management procedures, water temperature, and the presence of xenobiotics. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the kinetics of immunoglobulin production in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) inoculated with inactivated Aeromonas hydrophila and kept at two different water temperatures (17.4±0.4° or 21.3±0.3°C). The effect of a second antigen inoculation and exposure of fish to sublethal concentrations of the herbicides atrazine and glyphosate at 10% of the lethal concentration (LC50-96h) on specific serum antibodies were also investigated. Antibodies to A.... |

Bipolaris euphorbiae Muchovej & Carvalho can be combined with herbicide in order to control a large spectrum of weed species, being a strong candidate for the biocontrol of Euphorbia heterophylla L. (milk weed). The fungus release can be combined with herbicide in order to control a broader spectrum of weed species. Thus, laboratory experiments were set up to study the feasibility of using tank mixes of B. euphorbiae spores with herbicides or surfactants recommended for soybean. Mycelial growth and conidia germination were evaluated in PDA medium enriched with the herbicides oxasulfuron (80 g/ha), glyphosate (4 L/ha), bentazon (1.5 L/ha), fomesafen (1 L/ha), chlorimuron-ethyl (80 g/ha), lactofen (1 L/ha) and imazetaphyr (1 L/ha), and the... |

A bioeconomic model was developed for decision-making regarding large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis) control in glyphosate-resistant soybeans in the Rolling Pampas ofArgentina. The model was used to evaluate the economic returns of four different glyphosate-based strategies for weed control. In the absence of herbicide application (T1), the soil seed bank increases to an equilibrium density of 12,079 seeds m-2 in three years. A single herbicide application during the early stages of the crop (T2), which was intended to be highly effective in the control of an early weed cohort, allows a late, unaffected cohort to produce sufficient seeds to maintain population densities in the soil seed bank. A single, delayed herbicide application (T3), which was... |

ABSTRACT: Although the knowledge on agricultural using of biostimulants increases, there is still little information on their interactions with other chemicals i.e. herbicides. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of popular herbicides (MCPA + dicamba, dicamba + triasulfuron, florasulam+2,4-D) used with and without biostimulants based on seaweed extract (Kelpak) and nitrophenols (Asahi) on weed control efficiency, yield and quality of the crop. Field trial was carried out in the years 2014 and 2015 in the Institute of Plant Protection - National Research Institute in Poznan (Poland). The experiment was established on spring wheat cv.‘Torridon’, in 4 replications, using randomized block design. In the experiment two variants of application were... |

Herbicides inhibit enzymatic systems of plants. Acetolactate synthase (ALS, EC = 4.1.3.18) and 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS, EC 2.5.1.19) are key enzymes for herbicide action. Hundreds of compounds inhibit ALS. This enzyme is highly variable, enabling the selective control of weeds in a number of crops. Glyphosate, the only commercial herbicide inhibiting EPSPS is widely used for non-selective control of weeds in many crops. Recently, transgenic crops resistant to glyphosate were developed and have been used by farmers. The aim of this study was the data mining of eucalypt expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in the FORESTs Genome Project database (<A HREF="https://forests.esalq.usp.br">https://forests.esalq.usp.br</A>) related... |
