| Along the horizontal axis of reservoirs are generally recognized three zones (fluvial, transition and lacustrine) with distinct hydrodynamic and physical, chemical and biological properties. Quarterly samplings were conducted in 2002, in the limnetic region from each zone, at different depths of a tropical reservoir. To test the hypothesis that highest biomass (biovolume) of phytoplankton are found in the transition zone, the PERMANOVA analysis was realized. 106 taxa were recorded. Significant differences between biovolume values of the three zones were not verified (pseudo F = 0,89; p = 0,55). | Although episodic wetlands are very frequent environments in Argentina, the knowledge about their ecology is scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to describe the diversity and changes in the horizontal distribution of crustaceans and rotifers in the episodic wetland El Guanaco, Province of La Pampa, Argentina, during the hydroperiod that took place between December 2003 and March 2004. After three years during which it was dry, torrential rains made it reach a depth of 0.42 m. After 48 hours, ovigerous females and males of Metacyclops mendocinus (Wierzejeski 1892), juveniles of Moina wierzejskii (Richard 1895), and larvae of Triops longicaudatus (LeConte 1846) were recorded. | With the purpose of analyzing the horizontal distribution of the zooplankton community of the Tucuruí Reservoir in the State of Pará, Brazil, collections were made at 16 stations during August 1988. The stations cover the regions called Caraipé (C), Araçagi (B) and Ararão (A), and represent the different compartments of this ecosystem in regard to the morphometry and the presence or absence of "flooded forest". Our findings showed the existence of three compartments with different limnological characteristics determined as a function of the system's morphometry, a factor that may have influenced the horizontal circulation of the reservoir's water and, consequently, led to physical, chemical and biological differences at each of the sampled stations. | Movimientos verticales y horizontales del tiburón martillo (Sphyrna lewini) alrededor de las islas Malpelo y Cocos (Pacífico Oriental Tropical) usando telemetría satelital. El conocimiento de los ámbitos de distribución y los patrones diarios de actividad de peces pelágicos son aspectos clave para el establecimiento y planificación de áreas protegidas para su conservación. | Se presentan las características hidroquímicas de las aguas de las Bahías Chile, Almirantazgo y Fildes, en las Islas del Archipiélago Shetland del Sur, en base a la distribución horizontal y vertical de los parámetros: Oxígeno disuelto, salinidad y micronutrientes inorgánicos (fosfato, nitrito, nitrato y silicato). En forma general, se observa aguas bién oxigenadas, con salinidad relativamente baja, especialmente en la capa superficial, parámetro influenciado por el aporte de aguas de deshielo de los glaciares cercanos. Igualmente alta concentración relativa de micronutrientes inorgánicos, con escasa estratificación de los mismos. |
