Bathymetric changes in groundfish catch composition are analyzed, on the basis of routine reports of 106 bottom longline strings. The project was conducted from 12 December 1986 to 29 November 1987, covering areas from coastal waters to the outer shelf of the continental shelf off Argentina from 36° to 55°S. As a preliminary step to the analysis, the validity of each factor as probable explanatory variable in each area, was analyzed with consideration as to their range and variation. Obtained results show that the kingclip (Genypterus blacodes), a main objective of the project, could become one of the most profitable target species of the high-sea bottom longline, in areas along the outer edge of the continental shelf, at bottom depths slightly below 200... |

Fishery statistics of austral demersal fishes in the Southwest Atlantic (1980-2002 period). A synthesis of the information available about catches of austral demersal fishes and fishing efforts reported by different fleets that operated in the SW Atlantic between 34° S-58° S in the 1980-2002 period is made. Species included in the analysis were southern blue whiting (Micromesistius australis), patagonian hoki (Macruronus magellanicus), patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides), red cod (Salilota australis), southern hake (Merluccius australis) and ling (Genypterus blacodes). Annual and monthly catches, fishing grounds, number of vessels that participated in the fisheries, main landing ports and other characteristic of interest are presented. When it... |

Between October and August 1999 five cruises were made on board of R/V Ancón, across the Colombian Caribbean slope, from Punta Estrella (Guajira), near the Venezuelan border, to Cabo Tiburón (Chocó), near the Panamá border. Eighty trawls were made between 200 and 500 m depth with a semi-balloon net. Twelve new records of fishes for the Colombian Caribbean in the orders Beryciformes, Zeiformes, Perciformes and Tetraodontiformes were collected. Plectranthias garrupellus (Serranidae), Benthodesmus tenuis and B. simonyi (Trichiuridae) are new records for the Caribbean; Diplospinnus multistriatus family (Gempylidae) is a new record for the southern Caribbean. |

In the Dermersal Fishing period of the Cruise T94/11/05 D-O (15/11/94-23/11/94) an area of 12,520.9 km2 was covered, that is. The Ecuadorean Shelf between the 02°10'0”S - 80°0'0”W and 14 to 115 meters deep throughout th Ecuadorean Continental Shelf of the Guayaquil Gulf area. A total of 78 species was identified as follows: 74 of this 95%, two of crustaceans, one of molluscan and one of holothurid (Sea cucumber). The estimated total biomass of demersal fish was of 78, 384.9 t, from which the 52% was concentrated between the 02°48'9”S and 03°15'8”S. The most abundant species were: Gallineta (Prionotus stephanophrys)(48,776.0 t), Corvina (Cynoscion spp.) (11,241.7 t), Barriga juma (Larimus spp) (4,111.8 t), Cabezudo (Caulolatilus spp) (2,554.2 t) and Torno... |

The demersal phase (from june 24th to 09th, 1995) of cruise T95/06/02 DO, covered an area of 23833,6 km2 between 01° 04'1”N - 79° 59'6”O and 03° 22'7”S - 80° 48'0”O, of the Ecuadorian Continental Plataform, the deph range from 13 to 111 meters. 161 species were recorded, divided into 106 oseum fish species, five sharks, nine ray, 37 crustaceans, three molluscan and one holothurid (sea cucumber). Total biomass was estimated as 91685, 5 t, with 68,72% of this biomass distributed between 02° 15'1”S - 03°22'7”S, opposite to Guayaquil Gulf. The most abundant species were: Gallineta (Prionotus stephanophrys) (37283,7 t), Barriga juma (Larimus spp) (16146,2 t), Perela (Paralabrax spp) (14053,4 t), Palometa (Peprilus medius)(9865,3 t) and Cabezudo (Caulolatilus... |

The stock estimates obtained during the demersal fish resources survey in 1980-1985 were used to estimate the potential yields of demersal stocks of the Ecuadorian Continental Shelf. The difficulties of predicting yields for multispecies fisheries are discussed and modified version of the Gulland model was adopted. The potential realizable yields for multispecies fisheries are discussed and a modified version of the Gulland model was adopted. The potential realizable yield was calculated to be between 15,000 t and 20,000 t per year, of which 2,000 t is good quality fish, 5,000 t per year of small and medium fish and 8,000 t of gurnards. The majority of these resources are at present being fished at around their optimum levels and any further developments... |
