García-U., R. P.; Alvarado-Ch., E. M.; Acosta, A..

Yoong, F.; Reinoso, B..
The present study was carried out in samples of Ostrea columbiensis (Hanley) taken from the estero ”Las Alforjas”, during de period between march-december of 1989. Three stations were selected in the estero, in order to observe the fixation, growth and survival of the larvae in special collectors designed by the authors. The percentage of fixation in the station 1 was 25,8%, in the station 2, 37,8% and in the station 3, 36,4%. The larvae oyster got fixed, preferably, by the external face of the collector (big valve) in a percentage of 64,3, while on the external face this percentage was 35,7%. The average height of the oysters during the whole period of study was 52 mm, with a monthly increment of 5,2 mm. The percentage of the oysters survival was 84,4%....

OceanDocs
Zaixso, H.E.; Lizarralde, Z.I..
The effect of thinning on the harvestable biomass of mussel Mytilus platensis (d'Orb.) cultures was analyzed. Mussels were grown on ropes in sub-surface long-lines in Golfo Nuevo (Chubut, Argentina, 64° 59' W; 42°46' S) during a 15 month period (January 1987-April 1988). Ropes were seeded using the Spanish method with 2,000 individuals per rope meter. The thinning-out was performed three months later using the following thinning ratios (TR: number of half-grown ropes obtained from one seed rope):1,6 (900 individuals m super(-1)), 2,4 (600 individuals m super(-1)) and 3,2 (450 individuals m super(-1)). Growth rate (shell length and meat weight), survival and number of harvestable ropes increase with the thinning rate; the harvestable biomass being larger at...

A drift study of vertical distribution and mortality of Engraulis anchoita eggs and larvae. OceanDocs
Sánchez, R.P.; de Ciechomski, J.D.; Lasta, C.A.; Guerrero, R.A..
Lagrangian changes in distribution and survival within an anchovy egg and larvae patch were studied by means of multiple opening/closing sampling following a free drifting buoy. The buoy was equipped with a radar reflector and flashing light, and it was connected to a current cross drogue floating at 15 m depth, which corresponded to the main egg and larvae concentration within the patch. The drifter was launched on the Buenos Aires continental shelf, off Necochea during the spring spawning peak of 1983. Three discrete depths (within, below and above the thermocline)were repeatedly sampled close to the drogue with a Motoda sampler. Egg and larval abundances in the vicinity of the drogue were monitored at 3/4 hour intervals for a period of three days. Each...

The growth and survival of juvenile red porgy, Pagrus pagrus, reared in captivity (mean body weigth 81.0 not equal to 37.24g), exposed to two different temperatures (18 degree and 22 degree C)and three salinities (21, 27 and 33 psu)during a 30 day period, were studied. Final survival rate was 100. in all treatments. The highest growth rate was reached at 18 degree C/33 psu with a value of 1.07 /day. There was an inverse trend in the growth rate between the two temperatures. Food consumption increased with the increase of salinity and temperature. The highest food consumption rate was 1.17. (18 degree C/33 psu). The relationships between protein efficiency ration (PER)and salinity were positive at 18 degree C and negative at 22 degree C. The highest values...
