Wood samples from 53 species belonging to 41 genera of the Icacinaceae s.l. are investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy. The traditionally circumscribed Icacinaceae fall apart into four segregate families that are clearly nested within asterids, i.e., Icacinaceae s.str. (near or in Garryales), Cardiopteridaceae and Stemonuraceae (both Aquifoliales), and Pennantiaceae (Apiales). From a wood anatomical point of view, these families cannot easily be distinguished from each other. However, some features such as vessel distribution, perforation plate morphology, size and arrangement of vessel pits, fibre wall thickness, and the occurrence of cambial variants can be used to assign various species to one of the four families. Three new species of Gomphandra (Stemonuraceae / Icacinaceae s.l.) are described from Malesia, and a new name is proposed for a misidentified species. Gomphandra palustris is known from peat swamp forests in Borneo, Sarawak, G. halconensis is known from the Philippines, Mindoro, Mt Halcon, and G. conklinii from the Philippines, Ifugao Province, Banaue. Gomphandra rarinervis is offered as a new name for Stemonurus puberulus, which was incorrectly synonymised with G. papuana by Sleumer. This commonly collected taxon is known from Madang and Morobe Provinces in Papua New Guinea and does not overlap in distribution with G. papuana. |

Este trabalho estudou, por meio de coleções de herbários, os representantes arbóreos da ordem Celastrales sensu Cronquist, encontrados na bacia do rio Tibagi, estado do Paraná, Brasil. Esta bacia hidrográfica, subdividida em três zonas de norte para sul, baixo Tibagi (BT), médio Tibagi (MT) e alto Tibagi (AT), apresenta diferentes condições ambientais e tipos de vegetação ao longo de sua extensão. A ordem Celastrales está representada na bacia estudada por 15 espécies arbóreas, pertencentes às famílias Aquifoliaceae, Celastraceae e Icacinaceae. Icacinaceae conta com apenas duas espécies, Citronella gongonha e C. paniculata, sendo a primeira distinta pelo ovário glabro e folhas geralmente com espinhos.
