Impact of body characteristics on ultrasound-measured inferior vena cava parameters in Chinese children BJMBR
Gui,Jianjun; Zhou,Boyang; Liu,Juanhua; Ou,Bing; Wang,Yue; Jiang,Longyuan; Tang,Wanchun; Luo,Baoming; Yang,Zhengfei.
Ultrasound-measured inferior vena cava (IVC) and abdominal aorta (Ao)-associated parameters have been used to predict volume status for decades, yet research focusing on the impact of individual physical characteristics, including gender, height/weight, body surface area (BSA), and age, assessed simultaneously on those parameters in Chinese children is lacking. The aim of the present study was to explore the impact of individual characteristics on maximum IVC diameter (IVCmax), Ao, and IVCmax/Ao in healthy Chinese children. From September to December 2015, 200 healthy children from 1 to 13 years of age were enrolled. IVCmax and Ao diameters were measured by 2D ultrasound. We found that age (years), height (cm), weight (kg), waist circumference (cm), and...

Regional Histomorphometry of the Hepatic Inferior Vena Cava; a Possible Sphincteric Mechanism International Journal of Morphology
Bundi,P. K; Ogeng'o,J. A; Hassanali,J; Odula,P. O.
This study was aimed at identifying the changes in diameter and structural composition of the Hepatic Inferior Vena Cava in its infrahepatic, intrahepatic and suprahepatic portions. Eighty adult liver specimens from the Chiromo and Nairobi City mortuaries were used for morphometry, while twenty of them were processed for light microscopy. A constriction was noted in the mid-portion of the HIVC, while structurally; the intrahepatic portion had thicker fibromuscular adventitia. It is plausible that these are sphincteric apparatus to prevent backflow of blood in the Hepatic Inferior Vena Cava.

A Rare Lymphatico-Venous Communication Associated with Duplication of Thoracic Duct International Journal of Morphology
Anu,Vinod Ranade; Rajalakshmi,Rai; Latha,Venkatraya Prabhu; Mangala,Kumaran.
An unusual presentation of the duplication of thoracic duct with a rare lymphatico- venous communication was found during the routine dissection for undergraduate students. The thoracic duct duplicated at the level of T12 vertebra. Normally thoracic duct opens into the junction of left internal jugular vein and subclavian vein. On the right side of the neck, the right lymphatic duct conveys the lymph from the head and neck, the upper extremity and the right side of the thorax to the right innominate vein. Here, the duplicated thoracic duct on the left side opened directly into the inferior vena cava. The above case is discussed with regard to its development, incidence, and clinical significance

Morphometric Analysis of the Inferior Vena Cava Related to Lumbar Vertebra and the Aortic Bifurcation on Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT) International Journal of Morphology
Keskinoz,Elif Nedret; Salbacak,Ahmet; Akin,Duygu; Kabakci,Anil Didem Aydin; Yilmaz,Mehmet Tugrul; Cicekcibasi,Aynur Emine; Ozbek,Orhan.
Vascular structures are in greater danger during lumbar surgery. The purpose of this study is to describe the morphology of the inferior vena cava (IVC) related to the lumbar vertebra and aortic bifurcation (AB) and assessing the role of demographic values in these relations to decrease the risk of complications in the surgical interventions. The study was performed on Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT) images of 100 male and 100 female cases with an age range from 50 to 84 years. The morphometric values of the IVC obtained from the coronal, sagittal and the axial reformatted images were measured and compared with the demographic values. The distance from the IVC to the 1st lumbar vertebra (L1) and 2nd lumbar vertebra (L2) were measured as (26.5 mm...

Double Inferior Vena Cava Detected by CT Venography and Confirmed by Magnetic Resonance Venography: Embryogenesis and Literature Review International Journal of Morphology
Hadidi,Maher T; Badran,Darwish H; Ghaida,Jamal Abu; shatarat,Amjad T; Al-Hadidy,Azmy M; Tarawneh,Emad.
A hospital based prospective study was conducted from July 2001 to July 2015 at the Department of Radiology, Jordan University Hospital, Amman, Jordan. During that period, five cases of double inferior vena cava (DIVC) were discovered among a cohort of 7722 patients (3861 men and 3861 women, 49.5±16.9 years, range 1678 years). Cases were diagnosed by contrast-enhanced Spiral CT venography (CTV) and confirmed by turbo three-dimensional (3D) time-of-flight contrast-enhanced MR venography. The majority of patients 3166 (41 %) were referred for staging and follow-up of malignancy, postoperative complications 1777 (23 %), non-specific abdominal pain 1467 (19 %), preoperative assessment 849 (11 %) and trauma 463 (6 %). Magnetic resonance venography showed...
