Remotly Sensed Sea Surface Temperature from Aircraft Gayana
Kwon,B. H.; Benech,B.; Durand,P.; Kim,Y. S..
The experiment was conducted around south of the Azores islands, in the middle eastern part of the northern-Atlantic basin. The experimental area was situated between 31°N-38°N and 21°W-28°W. The experiment was performed in order to improve our knowledge of ocean-atmosphere interactions from the local-scale to the meso-scale. The sea surface temperature remotely measured by aircraft was corrected considering the radiation flux divergence. From the descending IR flux in function of the difference between the surface temperatures measured from the ship and the aircraft (SSTshipSSTaircraft), the difference decreases when the IR flux increases. The sea surface temperature was corrected of the radiation flux divergence of the atmosphere between the sea surface...

Production Indicators and Levels of Corticosterone in Pullets Treated with Beak-Trimming Protocols Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Vieira Filho,JA; Garcia,EA; Oba,E; Santos,TA; Molino,AB; Silva,AP; Pelícia,K; Paz,ICLA.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to compare the effects of beak trimming by hot blade or infrared radiation on production indicators and plasma levels of corticosterone in pullets. During the rearing phase, an entirely random delineation was used a 2 x 3 factorial design (two different techniques for beak trimming x 3 strains), a total of six treatments with six repetitions of 20 hens. In the growing phase, the previous treatments were divided into 12, with eight repetitions with seven hens. These treatments were then distributed in a factorial design of 2 x 3 x 2 (two methodologies for beak trimming during rearing phase x three strains x with or without beak trimming at ten weeks of age). In the rearing phase the birds treated by infrared radiation had...

BEAK TRIMMING BY INFRARED RADIATION OF LAYERS Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Pelicia,K; Garcia,EA; Santos,TA; Santos,GC; Vieira Filho,JA; Silva,AP; Moreira,J; Rabello,CBV; Garcia,RG.
ABSTRACT This study aimed at evaluating beak-trimming methods and intensities on the performance, beak length and uniformity, and egg parameters of commercial layers. During the rearing period, birds were distributed in randomized blocks, with a 2x3 factorial design + two treatments, consisting of beak trimming with infrared (IR) radiation (moderate or severe); three IR intensities (low: 42 nm, intermediate: 46 nm, or high: 52 nm); and two control hot blade (HB) beak trimming treatments (moderate or severe) with eight treatments and five replicates of 21 chicks each, totaling 840 birds. During the growing phase (second experiment) the factorial design was modified to 2 x 3 x 2 + 4, comprising two IR beak-trimming intensities (moderate or severe); three IR...

Air temperature and final grain moisture effects on drying time and milling quality in two types of fluidized bed dryer CIGR Journal
Pourbagher, Roghayeh; Rahmati, Mohammad Hashem; Alizadeh, Mohammad Reza.
Drying process is one of the important stages in paddy milling process and plays a key role in the product quality.  In this modified the effects of air temperature (40°C, 50°C and 60°C) and final paddy grain moisture content (8-9%, 9-10% and 10-11% d.b.) were examined on the drying time and milling properties in fluidized bed dryer with two heating sources (infrared radiation and heater types).  The experimental design was randomized complete design with factorial layout in which three levels of final paddy grain moisture content, three levels of air temperature and two types of dryers with three replications in each treatment.  The results indicated that the lowest cracked grain (8.01%) was related to the air temperature of 40°C and the moisture content...

Assessment of some physical properties of dried potatoes CIGR Journal
Hafezi, Negar; Sheikhdavoodi, Mohammad Javad; Sajadiye, Seyed Majid.
The effect of drying behaviour on the drying rate and quality characteristics of potato slices in a vacuum-infrared drying system was studied. In this research, the effect of the infrared radiation powers (100, 150, and 200 W) and vacuum levels (20, 80, 140 mmHg and atmosphere pressure) at different slice thickness (1, 2 and 3 mm) on drying rate and shrinkage percentage and rehydration capacity were investigated.  It was concluded that infrared radiation power amount has a significant effect on processing time and drying rate. With increasing radiation power, drying time is reduced and consequently drying rate is increased. The drying rate curve of potato slices at initial drying time is in the ascending phase because of surface moisture evaporation and...
