Economic analysis of sorghum consortia with forages or with dwarf pigeon pea succeeded by soybean or corn PAB
Pascoaloto,Isabô Melina; Andreotti,Marcelo; Cruz,Sanderley Simões da; Sabbag,Omar Jorge; Borghi,Emerson; Lima,Gilmar Cotrin de; Modesto,Viviane Cristina.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the most economically viable integrated no-tillage crop-livestock system by intercropping sorghum with tropical forages or dwarf pigeon pea, succeeded by soybean or corn, over a two-year period. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. The treatments consisted of forage sorghum intercropped with: 'Marandu' grass; 'Marandu' grass and dwarf pigeon pea; 'Mombaça' grass; 'Mombaça' grass and dwarf pigeon pea; and dwarf pigeon pea and single sorghum, harvested for silage in the first cut and regrowth, succeeded by soybean or corn. The following calculations were made: effective operational cost, total operational costs, gross revenues, operational income,...

Straw production and agronomic performance of soybean intercropped with forage species in no-tillage system PAB
Andrade,Carlos Augusto Oliveira de; Borghi,Emerson; Bortolon,Leandro; Bortolon,Elisandra Solange Oliveira; Camargo,Francelino Peteno de; Avanzi,Junior Cesar; Simon,Jones; Silva,Rubens Ribeiro da; Fidelis,Rodrigo Ribeiro.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the straw production and the agronomic performance of soybean intercropped with oversown forage species, in no-tillage system. A randomized complete block design was carried out with four replicates, in a 5×2+2 factorial arrangement, as follows: five forage species - Urochloa brizantha 'Marandu', Urochloa ruziziensis, Panicum maximum 'Mombaça', Panicum maximum 'Massai', and Pennisetum americanum -, intercropped with soybean over two crop years (2013/2014 and 2014/2015), plus two controls, with P. americanum sowed in succession to soybean or with soybean monocropping followed by winter fallow (traditional cultivation). Soybean yield components and forage straw yield were evaluated. None of the...

WEED COMPETITION WITH SOYBEAN IN NO-TILLAGE AGROFORESTRY AND SOLE-CROP SYSTEMS IN SUBTROPICAL BRAZIL Planta Daninha

ABSTRACT Weed competition on soybean (Glycine max) growth and yield was expected to be different when managed in an agroforestry system as compared with sole-cropping without trees. Therefore agronomic practices to control weeds might need to be modified in agroforestry systems. We analyzed weed competition effects on soybean growth, grain yield, and yield components at different distances from 4year-old eucalyptus (Eucalyptus benthamii) in an alley cropping system, as well as in a sole-crop system in southern Brazil. Above-ground soybean biomass was collected throughout the growing season and a logistic function was used to model crop growth. Weed above-ground biomass sampled during the soybean cycle, and grain yield and yield components at the end of the...

ABSTRACT This paper aims to discuss the impact of the introduction of pastures and grazing animals in agricultural systems. For the purposes of this manuscript, we focus on within-farm integrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS), typical of Southern Brazil. These ICLS are designed to create and enhance the synergisms and emergent properties have arisen from agricultural areas where livestock activities are integrated with crops. We show that the introduction of the crop component will affect less the preceding condition than the introduction of the livestock component. While the introduction of crops in pastoral systems represents increasing diversity of the plant component, the introduction of animals would represent the entry of new flows and interactions...

Soil physical attributes in integrated bean and sheep system under nitrogen levels Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Andreolla,Veruschka Rocha Medeiros; Moraes,Aníbal de; Bonini,Andreia Kusumota; Deiss,Leonardo; Sandini,Itacir Eloi.
Integrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS) can promote higher grain and meat/milk yield as well as reduce soil degradation risks. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of grazing sheep with moderate intensity and nitrogen doses on soil physical attributes, and bean crop yield (Phaseolus vulgaris Lam.) under rotation with summer corn crop (Zea mays Lam.) and winter pasture with oats (Avena sativa Lam) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) The experimental design was completely randomized blocks with split-plot; the plots were nitrogen doses and the split-plots were grazing presence or absence. The treatments were nitrogen doses of 0, 75, 150 and 225 kg ha-1 applied on ryegrass and white oat pasture in winter followed by bean crop. Soil density,...

Weed dynamics in grain sorghum-grass intercropped systems Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Sodré Filho,Joilson; Marchão,Robélio Leandro; Carvalho,Arminda Moreira de; Carmona,Ricardo.
The aim of this study was to assess the influence of short-season sorghum-grass intercropped systems on weed population dynamics. The integrated systems consisted of sorghum grown at two row spacings (0.50 m and 0.70 m), intercropped with palisade grass or Congo grass. We also used sole crops of sorghum, palisade grass, Congo grass and a fallow to serve as a reference for spontaneous vegetation. The experiment was conducted in 2010 and 2011 at Planaltina (Federal District) in Brazil. Weed populations and weed dry matter were assessed during the short season and during the succession soybean cycle. The weed soil seed bank was sampled in both years of the study. Sorghum at a row spacing of 0.50 m intercropped with Congo grass reduced the Ageratum conyzoides...

Agrosilvopastoral system enhances suppressiveness to soybean damping-off caused by Rhizoctonia solani and alters Fusarium and Trichoderma population density Agronomy
Roese, Alexandre Dinnys; Ribeiro Junior, Paulo Justiniano; Porfírio-da-Silva, Vanderley; May De Mio, Louise Larissa.
Integrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS) are sustainable options for agricultural diversification, but there have been few studies on the influence of ICLS on soil microorganisms. This work investigated the influence of agropastoral (AP) and agrosilvopastoral (ASP) systems, compared with a non-integrated crop (CO) on the suppression of Rhizoctonia solani and on the density of Fusarium and Trichoderma propagules. In the first assay, soil samples were inoculated with R. solani and evaluated for soybean damping-off. After this, the soil was sterilized and re-inoculated with the pathogen for a new evaluation. Finally, 10% of the soil in the pots were substituted by newly soil samples collected from the same plots in the field to evaluate de suppressiveness...
