Impact de la pisciculture marine intensive sur l'environnement. Revue bibliographique ArchiMer
Videau, Christiane; Merceron, Michel.
A review of the publications concerning the impact of the intensive marine fish farming to the environment was performed. The existing literature is mostly devoted to the salmonids farmed in Scandinavia and Scotland. The results of this review are only partly relevant to the French environment which needs more specific studies. A more extensive abstract is displayed farther on. (not controlled OCR)

Sustained swimming mitigates stress in juvenile Brycon amazonicus reared in high stocking densities PAB
Arbeláez-Rojas,Gustavo Alberto; Moraes,Gilberto; Nunes,Cleujosí da Silva; Fabrizzi,Fernando.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of stocking density associated with the swimming exercise on the stress responses of Brycon amazonicus. During 70 days, fish were subjected to three stocking densities: LD, low density of 88 fish per cubic meter; ID, intermediary density of 176 fish per cubic meter; and HD, high density of 353 fish per cubic meter. These densities were combined with static water (non-exercised group) or moderate-speed water (exercised group). Chronic stress was observed in HD, and plasma cortisol and glucose increased with the stocking densities. In HD, levels of plasma cortisol were significantly lower in exercised fish (135 ng mL-1) than in non-exercised ones (153 ng mL-1). The greatest hepatic glycogen...

Yield of lettuce grown in aquaponic system using different substrates AGRIAMBI
Jordan,Rodrigo A.; Geisenhoff,Luciano O.; Oliveira,Fabricio C. de; Santos,Rodrigo C.; Martins,Elton A. S..
ABSTRACT In the aquaponic system, the characteristics of the materials used as substrate directly affect plant development, because besides acting as a support base, they must present a surface to fix microorganisms, responsible for the conversion of nutrients into forms more easily available to plants. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of four growing substrates on the yield of lettuce grown in aquaponic system. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four treatments, which corresponded to the substrates, and six replicates. Plants were grown using the nutrient film technique (NFT) system. The substrates used in the experiment were: coconut shell fiber with crushed stone #3, expanded vermiculite, zeolite and phenolic...

Influence of a net cage tilapia culture on the water quality of the Nova Avanhandava reservoir, São Paulo State, Brazil - doi: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v34i3.7298 Biological Sciences
Mallasen, Margarete; Instituto de Pesca; Barros, Helenice Pereira de; Instituto de Pesca; Traficante, Daniela Polizeli; Estadual Paulista “Julio de Mesquita Filho”; Camargo, André Luiz Scarano; Escama Forte Aquacultura e Meio Ambiente Ltda.
In order to understand the influence of a net cage tilapia culture on the environment, water quality parameters were investigated during the period between December, 2005 and November, 2007. Three sampling stations were established in the reservoir of Nova Avanhandava (Zacarias, São Paulo State) as follows: upstream of net cage area (P1), in the rearing place (P2) and downstream of net cage area (P3). The mean values of the parameters examined in the water sampling stations were within the standards of water quality recommended by resolution no. 357/2005 of the Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente for class 2 freshwater bodies. A significantly higher mean concentration of total phosphorus (p < 0.05) in the P2 (0.035 mg L-1) was the result of the...
