Variations in The Vascular Supply of Pancreas and Transverse Colon: A Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Silva Júnior,L. M; Alexandre,M; Gonçalves,L; Silva,F. S; Caetano,A. G.
During anatomical dissection of the abdominal cavity of an adult male corpse, a changing pattern of vascular supply of pancreas and of the transverse colon was observed. The inferior pancreatic artery and the middle colic artery arose from a common trunk of the superior mesenteric artery. Moreover, the lienal artery did not direct a dorsal branch to the neck of the pancreas, but rather sent two greater pancreatic arteries (proximal and distal) to the body of the gland and one caudal artery to the terminal portion of the pancreas. We also observed a large communicating branch between the proximal portion of the middle colic artery and the ascending branch of the left colic artery, previously described as artery of Moskowitz. Based on these data, clinical...

Atrophy of the Nitrergic Myenteric Neurons in the Descending Colon Rats Submitted to Protein and Vitamin Deficiency International Journal of Morphology
Araújo,Eduardo José de Almeida; Hermes,Catchia; Miranda Neto,Marcílio Hubner de; Almeida,Elton Carlos de; Sant'Ana,Débora de Mello Gonçales.
Effects of protein and B-complex vitamin deficiency were assessed with respect to the morphometry of myenteric neurons in the descending colon of adult rats. Sixteen animals were divided into two groups: Control Group (CG, n=8) and Experimental Group (EG, n=8). The CG received 22% protein chow and the EG received 4% protein chow for 120 days. The descending colon was submitted to NADH- and NADPH-diaphorase technique in order to evidence nervous cells in the whole mounts preparations. In the EG, NADH-d positive neurons presented reduced nuclei, while NADPH-d positive neurons showed atrophy of the soma area (~41.7%) inducing an increase of the proportion occupied by the nucleus inside in the soma of these cells.

Probiotics prevent growth deficit of colon wall strata of malnourished rats post-lactation Anais da ABC (AABC)
Lima,Dirlene P.; Azevedo,Jorge F. de; Hermes-Uliana,Catchia; Alves,Gilberto; Sant'ana,Débora M.G.; Araújo,Eduardo J.A..
The objective of this study was to analyze morphometrically the colon wall strata of malnourished rats supplemented with probiotics. Sixteen recently weaned Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were distributed into four groups: animals that received commercial chow (G1, n = 4); animals that received the same feed as G1 and were supplemented with probiotics (G2, n = 4); animals that received chow with 4% of proteins (G3, n = 4); animals that received the same feed as G3 and were supplemented with probiotics (G4, n = 4). After 12 weeks, the proximal colon was collected and submitted to histological processing. Three-µm cuts were stained with H.E., Periodic Acid Schifff (P.A.S.) + diasthasis solution and Alcian Blue (A.B.) pH 2.5 and pH 1.0. The morphometric...
