Leaf-associated bacterial microbiota of coffee and its correlation with manganese and calcium levels on leaves Genet. Mol. Biol.
Sousa,Leandro Pio de; Silva,Marcio José da; Costa Mondego,Jorge Maurício.
Abstract Coffee is one of the most valuable agricultural commodities and the plants’ leaves are the primary site of infection for most coffee diseases, such as the devastating coffee leaf rust. Therefore, the use of bacterial microbiota that inhabits coffee leaves to fight infections could be an alternative agricultural method to protect against coffee diseases. Here, we report the leaf-associated bacteria in three coffee genotypes over the course of a year, with the aim to determine the diversity of bacterial microbiota. The results indicate a prevalence of Enterobacteriales in Coffea canephora, Pseudomonadales in C. arabica ‘Obatã’, and an intriguing lack of bacterial dominance in C. arabica ‘Catuaí’. Using PERMANOVA analyses, we assessed the association...

Morphology, Anatomy, Palynology and Seed Micromorphology of Turkish Endemic Verbascum exuberans Hub.-Mor. (Scrophulariaceae) Planta Daninha
AKTAS,K.; ÖZDEMIR,C.; ÖZDEMIR,B..
ABSTRACT: Verbascum L. is the largest genus of the family Scrophulariceae and includes several species are of medicinal importance. The high morphological diversity among the species of the genus Verbascum causes problems in the delimitation of the species. In this study, morphological, anatomical, palynological and seed properties of Verbascum exuberans were investigated. It is a local endemic restricted to the provinces of Manisa and Izmir in West Anatolia. In the root cross-section, the xylem elements occupy a considerable area. The upper part of the epidermis cells in the stem cross-section is covered a distinct cuticle layer. The main vein of the leaf is shapped as bicollateral bundle. Idioblasts were not observed in the epidermis of the leaves of V....

Green ear yield and grain yield of maize cultivars in competition with weeds Planta Daninha
Silva,P.S.L.; Silva,K.M.B.; Silva,P.I.B.; Oliveira,V.R.; Ferreira,J.L.B..
The reduction in herbicide use is one of the greatest interests for modern agriculture and several alternatives are being investigated with this objective, including the adoption of cultivars that suppress weeds. The objective of this study was to verify if maize cultivars develop differently, in competition with weeds, to produce green ears and grain. Randomized complete block design was used, with split-plots and five replications. Cultivars DKB 390, DKB 466, DKB 350, AG 7000, AG 7575 and Master, were evaluated in the plots, without weeding and two weedings (at 22 and 41 days after sowing) in sub plots. Twenty-one species were identified in the experimental area, the most frequent being Gramineae (Poaceae), Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae (Fabaceae) and...

Intracellular and intercellular compartmentation of carbohydrate metabolism in leaves of temperate gramineae Rev. Bras. Bot.
POLLOCK,CHRISTOPHER J.; FARRAR,JOHN; KOROLEVA,OLGA A.; GALLAGHER,JOE A.; TOMOS,A. DERI.
This review considers the importance of compartmentation in the regulation of carbohydrate metabolism in leaves. We draw particular attention to the role of the vacuole as a site for storage of soluble sugars based on sucrose, and discuss briefly their characteristic metabolism. We also point out inconsistencies between the observed properties of vacuoles and the behaviour in vitro of the enzymes of fructan biosynthesis that do not support the hypothesis that the vacuole is the site of synthesis as well as of storage. We also consider compartmentation of carbohydrate metabolism between different cell types, using mainly our studies on leaves of temperate C3 gramineae. Here we present evidence of significant differences in carbon metabolism between...

Ultrastructure of the intercellular protuberances in leaves of Paepalanthus superbus Ruhl. (Eriocaulaceae) Rev. Bras. Bot.
MACHADO,SILVIA RODRIGUES; ESTELITA,MARIA EMÍLIA M.; GREGÓRIO,ELISA APARECIDA.
Mature leaves of Paepalanthus superbus exhibit intercellular protuberances between the inner periclinal walls of the epidermal and the parenchyma cells surface, as well as on the surface of the parenchyma mesophyll cells. These structures are mostly prominent around the parenchyma cells, forming a gel capsule-like structure. Histochemical tests with ruthenium red indicate the pectic nature of the intercellular deposits, with scattered lipidic inclusions as revealed by sudan IV and sudan black B. Ultrastructural analyses show a fibrillar matrix with scattered fimbriate and tubular structures, and a distinct margin delimited by a dense membrane-like structure. Our results suggest that the protuberances are derived from secretory activity, and are formed...

Convection regime between canopy and air in a greenhouse Scientia Agricola
Atarassi,Roberto Terumi; Folegatti,Marcos Vinicius; Brasil,René Porfírio Camponez do.
The use of covering materials in protected environments modifies the air movement close to the crop canopy compared to external environment, which changes the heat and mass transfer between canopy and air. Several researches have been made in greenhouses to estimate mass and heat flux using dimensionless numbers to characterize the type of convection (forced, free or mixed). The knowledge of which one is dominant allows simplifications and specific approaches. The dominant convection regime between canopy and air was determined in a naturally ventilated greenhouse cropped with sweet pepper. Forced convection was predominant, representing more than 70% of the time. During daytime, an increase of mixed convection was observed. It is thus appropriated the use...

Leaf anatomy of rubber-tree clones Scientia Agricola
Martins,Maria Bernadete Gonçalves; Zieri,Rodrigo.
Rubber trees are easily recognizable for being woody, medium to large-sized plants, having a typical deciduous behavior, and especially because they produce latex. The purpose of this work was to study the anatomy and morphology of the leaf, comparing rubber tree &91;Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell.-Arg.&93; clones (RRIM 600 and GT 1) grafted on the same root stock (Tjir 1), grown under the same climatic and soil conditions. This study allowed clones to be differentiated and also provided information on the location and disposition of laticifers in the leaf tissue. Cross sections of the mesophyll, center ribbing and petiole regions were made, followed by usual permanent histological blade methods. Biometric analyses of tissue...

การสกัดดีเอ็นเอจากข้าวโพดในระดับเล็กสำหรับทำพีซีอาร์ Thai Agricultural
Wanchai Yenpetch; Chaba Jampatong; Sanon Suksatan.
This method for instant DNA extraction from fresh corn leaf based on a simple DNA extraction with CTAB modified from Doyle and Doyle (1987) in small scale. After extraction steps, the extracted DNA was checked the quality and quantity by using a spectrophotometer to measure the absorbance at A260/A280. The result showed the feasibility of this method which was confirmed by using PCR method. The PCR product showed an expected band. Without the addition of the phenol or 2-beta-mercaptoethanol, this method could properly use in routine laboratory where DNA is used for PCR detection. In addition, this method requires less plant tissue to extract that is useful for other plant experiments.

Colleters in Chamaecrista (L.) Moench sect. Chamaecrista and sect. Caliciopsis (Leguminosae-Caesalpinioideae): anatomy and taxonomic implications Acta Botanica
Silva,Marinalva dos Santos; Coutinho,Ítalo Antônio Cotta; Araújo,Maicon Nascimento; Meira,Renata Maria Strozi Alves.
ABSTRACT The genus Chamaecrista contains ca. 330 species organized into six sections, of which section Chamaecrista is the second largest (ca.75 species) distributed among six series, while the section Caliciopsis contains only two species. Colleters have been described in the genus Chamaecrista and they show potential taxonomic and phylogenetic significance. They are associated with lubrication, desiccation prevention and protection from microbial attacks of young developing organs. Although six types of colleters have been described for the genus Chamaecrista, there have been no studies focusing on the diversity of colleters in the sections Chamaecrista and Caliciopsis. Samples from developing leaves and flowers of both sections were obtained from...

Diversity of metaxylem vessel elements in three Syagrus palms (Arecaceae) of different habits Acta Botanica
Pace,Marcelo Rodrigo; Botânico,Marli Pereira; Angyalossy,Veronica.
Vessel elements in Monocotyledons present morphological differences according to the organ where they occur. Usually such diff erences have been explained from an evolutionary perspective, with few data on how the vessel elements could be infl uenced by the diff erent functions of organs and the growth habits of the plants. To address this question, three vegetative organs of palms of the same genus, Syagrus, growing in similar environments, but with different habits, were analyzed. Accordingly, we aimed to detect whether the vessel elements would present similar features in all species or whether the vessel elements would change according to their different habits. We found that the width and type of perforation plates varied in the same way among all...
