Sugarcane leaf area index modeling under different soil water conditions Scientia Agricola
Teruel,D.A.; Barbieri,V.; Ferraro Jr.,L.A..
The knowledge of the Leaf Area Index (LAI) variation during the whole crop cycle is essential to the modeling of the plant growth and development and, consequently, of the crop yield. Sugarcane LAI evolution models were developed for different crop cycles, by adjusting observed LAI values and growing degree-days summation data on a power-exponential function. The resultant equations simulate adequately the LAI behavior during the entire crop cycle. The effect of different water stress levels was calculated in different growth periods, upon the LAI growth The LAI growth deficit was correlated with the ratio between actual evapotranspiration and máximum evapotranspiration, and a constant named kuu was obtained hi each situation. It was noticed that the kLAI...

Assessing soil carbon stocks under pastures through orbital remote sensing Scientia Agricola
Szakács,Gabor Gyula Julius; Cerri,Carlos Clemente; Herpin,Uwe; Bernoux,Martial.
The growing demand of world food and energy supply increases the threat of global warming due to higher greenhouse gas emissions by agricultural activity. Therefore, it is widely admitted that agriculture must establish a new paradigm in terms of environmental sustainability that incorporate techniques for mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. This article addresses to the scientific demand to estimate in a fast and inexpensive manner current and potential soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks in degraded pastures, using remote sensing techniques. Four pastures on sandy soils under Brazilian Cerrado vegetation in São Paulo state were chosen due to their SOC sequestration potential, which was characterized for the soil depth 0-50 cm. Subsequently, a linear...

Study of the correlation between foliar and patternator deposits in a “Tendone” vineyard CIGR Journal
Pascuzzi, Simone; Santoro, Francesco; Manetto, Giuseppe; Cerruto, Emanuele.
The correct sprayer setting, with the appropriate selection of the operative parameters such as forward speed, airflow rate, volume rate, and distribution profiles according to the geometrical and morphological features of the target, is a key point in all phytosanitary treatments.  The assessment of distribution profiles usually requires the use of patternators, able to intercept the spray jet and then to provide information useful for sprayer calibration.  The present paper analyses the correlations between foliar deposits measured during treatments in a “tendone” vineyard and the quantities of mixture intercepted by a patternator (distribution profile) used during the preliminary calibration of the sprayer, assuming the Leaf Area Index (LAI) of the...
