Leaf development and growth of selected sugarcane clones in a subtropical environment PAB
Streck,Nereu Augusto; Hanauer,Joana Graciela; Gabriel,Luana Fernandes; Buske,Taise Cristine; Langner,Josana Andréia.
The objective of this work was to compare phyllochron and leaf area on individual stalks of selected sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) clones grown in a subtropical environment. A two-year field experiment was carried out in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, during the 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 growing seasons. Three sugarcane clones were used: IAC 822045 (early), SP 711406 (median) and CB 4176 (late), in a complete randomized block design, with four replications. Expanded leaf and total leaf (tips) number were determined, and expanded leaf area was measured. The phyllochron (ºC day leaf-1) based on expanded and tip leaf number was estimated, using 10ºC as base temperature. Allometric relationships between individual area and number of expanded leaves were fitted....

Sample size and sampling method for evaluation of characteristics of the sunflower1 Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Paulo Sérgio Lima e; Santos,Luiz Eduardo Barreto dos; Oliveira,Vianney Reinado de; Sousa,Roberto Pequeno de; Fernandes,Patrícia Lianny de Oliveira.
In the sunflower, in addition to seed yield, it is of interest to evaluate number of leaves plant-1, head diameter, stem diameter and plant height, since these characteristics may be associated with seed yield or lodging. The objective of the work was to determine the optimal sample size (from which the experimental coefficient of variation, CV, can be established) for evaluation of these four characteristics. Fifteen cultivars were evaluated in an experimental design of randomized blocks with ten replications. The characteristics were evaluated using two sampling methods (in a single row of plants or in the two rows from the useable area of each plot) and sample sizes of from two to 18 sampling units, with an interval of two plants. In the two sampling...

Comparing two versions of a non-linear model for simulating leaf number and developmental stages in maize based on air temperature Ciência Rural
Streck,Nereu Augusto; Gabriel,Luana Fernandes; Samboranha,Flavia Kaufmann; Lago,Isabel; Schwantes,Ana Paula; Schons,Alfredo.
The Wang and Engel (WE) model simulates crop development considering the non-linear response of plant development to temperature. Daily air temperature is the input for the temperature response function [f(T)] in the WE model, and because there are several approaches for computing daily temperatures, there are several ways to calculate the f(T). The objective of this study was to compare two versions of the WE model for simulating leaf number and developmental stages in maize, considering two approaches for imputing daily air temperature (daily mean air temperature and daily minimum/maximum air temperature). A two-year field experiment with the maize variety BRS Missões sown in several sowing dates was conducted in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul State,...
