Isolating climatic and paleomagnetic imbricated signals in two marine cores using principal component analysis ArchiMer
Valet, Jean-pierre; Moreno, Eva; Bassinot, Franck; Johannes, Lola; Dewilde, Fabien; Bastos, Tiago; Lefort, Apolline; Venec-peyre, Marie-therese.
High resolution measurements of climatic and magnetic parameters have been performed on two cores from the eastern China Sea and the western Caroline Basin. On both cores, magnetic parameters show a strong imprint of climatic changes but the absence of relationship between the inclination and the bulk density indicates that the directional changes do not depend on lithology. A weak 100 ka cycle is present in the China sea inclination variations, but this period is not in phase with the orbital eccentricity and thus not relevant. All normalization parameters yielded similar estimates of relative paleointensity (RPI), but we have noticed the persistence of climatic components in the signal. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) applied to different parameters...

Acquisition of detrital magnetization in four turbidites ArchiMer
Tanty, Cyrielle; Valet, Jean-pierre; Carlut, Julie; Bassinot, Franck; Zaragosi, Sebastien.
Turbiditic events are mostly avoided in paleomagnetic studies and therefore their remanence and magnetic properties are poorly described. Turbidites are exempt of bioturbation and potentially provide pertinent information about depositional remanence. We studied four quaternary turbidites of different origins in marine sediment cores. Upward fining of both magnetic and sedimentary fractions indicates that coarser grains reached the bottom first. We observe a progressive shallowing of the magnetic inclinations between the upper and bottom layers of the turbidites that increases with the size of the events and obeys a simple linear scaling law. Measurements of magnetic anisotropy suggest that hydrodynamic conditions prevailing during deposition seem to be...

Compositional and structural variabilities of Mg-rich iron oxide spinels from tuffite Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Mussel,W. N.; Fabris,J. D.; Coey,J. M. D.; Sans,L. M. A.; Lelis,M. F. F..
Maghemite (γFe2O3) from tuffite is exceptionally rich in Mg, relatively to most of those reportedly found in other mafic lithosystems. To investigate in detail the compositional and structural variabilities of this natural magnetic iron oxide, sets of crystals were isolated from samples collected at different positions in a tuffite weathering mantle. These sets of crystal were individually powdered and studied by X-ray diffractometry, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetization measurements and chemical analysis. Lattice parameter of the cubic cell (a0) was found to vary from 0.834(1) to 0.8412(1) nm. Lower a0-values are characteristic of maghemite whereas higher ones are related to a magnetite precursor. FeO content ranges up to 17 mass % and spontaneous...

Magnetic Parkia pendula seed gum as matrix for Concanavalin A lectin immobilization and its application in affinity purification Anais da ABC (AABC)
RÊGO,MOACYR J.B.M.; ALMEIDA,SINARA M.; BEZERRA,SÉRGIO A.; CARVALHO JÚNIOR,LUIZ B.; BELTRÃO,EDUARDO I.C..
The present work aimed to magnetize Parkia pendula seeds gum and use it as a matrix for Concanavalin A covalent immobilization. This composite was applied in affinity purification of glycoconjugates. Parkia pendula seeds were hydrated and the gum provenient from the supernatant was precipitated and washed with ethanol and dried. The gum was magnetized in co-precipitation using solutions of Fe+2 and Fe+3. Matrix activation was accomplished with NaIO4. Magnetized Parkia pendula seeds gum with covalently immobilized Concanavalin A was used as an affinity matrix for the recognition of bovine serum fetuin glycoprotein. Fetuin elution was carried out with a solution of glucose (300mM) and evaluated through SDS-PAGE. The efficiency of lectin immobilization and...
