Nutritive value of corn silage from intensive dairy farms in Brazil R. Bras. Zootec.
de Oliveira,Isabella Lasmar; Lima,Luciana Miranda; Casagrande,Daniel Rume; Lara,Márcio André Stefanelli; Bernardes,Thiago Fernandes.
ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to characterize the nutritive value of corn silage made on intensive dairy farms and demonstrate the nutritional variations between silages located at the top and at the center of a bunker silo. Thirty-two dairy farms were visited in four Brazilian states. One corn bunker silo of each farm was chosen and samples were collected from the top and center parts. The nutritive value, fermentation end-products, and microbial counts were assessed. The predicted milk was determined by Milk2006 spreadsheet. The mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, and 95% confidence interval of all data were calculated. The ash, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), starch, in vitro NDF, and dry matter (DM) digestibility data were compared...

Aerobic deterioration influences the fermentative, microbiological and nutritional quality of maize and sorghum silages on farm in high quality milk and cheese production chains R. Bras. Zootec.
Borreani,Giorgio; Bernardes,Thiago Fernandes; Tabacco,Ernesto.
Maize and sorghum silages are good sources of energy for lactating dairy cows that produce milk destined for fresh and matured cheeses. Silages are usually stored in horizontal silos with or without side walls on commercial farms throughout the world. The main microbiological and nutritional quality problems are related to harvesting time, ensiling technology, and management practices during filling and feed-out. Aerobic deterioration is a key point that must avoided on farms in order to improve the hygienic, chemical and sensorial quality of milk and cheeses. Aerobic deterioration causes large losses of dry matter (DM) and quality, and it can cause health problems for animals and humans through the transfer of pathogens and mycotoxins from feed and...

Physical-chemical characteristics and fatty acids composition in dairy goat milk in response to roughage diet BABT
Torii,Marcelo Shizuo; Damasceno,Júlio César; Ribeiro,Luciano da Rocha; Sakaguti,Eduardo Shiguero; Santos,Geraldo Tadeu dos; Matsushita,Makoto; Fukumoto,Nelson Massaru.
The objective of the present work was to evaluate the physical-chemical characteristics (density, pH, acidity, fat, protein, lactose and total of solids contents) and milk fatty acids composition (C: 4 to C: 20) in response to roughage sources (alfalfa hay T1; oat hay T2 and maize silage T3). Nine Saanen lactating goats were used, in a triple Youden square design (3 animals x 2 periods). There was no treatment effects in the physical-chemical variables in the univariate analyses; by multivariate analyses three distinct patterns of fatty acids could be defined: milk with greater quantity of short chain fatty acids and acids C17:1omega7 e C18:2omega6 (T1); milk with equivalent amounts of short, medium and long chain fatty acids (T2); and milk with greater...
