The OdinPubAfrica project (FUST-project: - see) developed a repository for scientific literature of African marine science. During the project other Odin groups, in the first place OdinCarsa were interested to develop a similar repository project for their region. As a result the OdinPubAfrica repository was extended to accept other Odin groups and was renamed to OceanDocs (http://iodeweb1.vliz.be/odin - http://www.oceandocs.net). This program proposal is based on the experiences of OdinPubAfrica and the interest by new partners. |

Development of an African repository for electronic publications in marine science and oceanography Realisations in 2004 – Planning of 2005 The goal of OdinPubAfrica is to develop an electronic platform to collect scientific documents (articles, conference papers, working papers …) produced by members of African research institutes in the field of oceanography and marine science. A two year project was accepted by the government of Flanders in the FUST–program to realize the goal. The University Library of LUC (Belgium) is coordinating the project, which started officially on August 1, 2005. |

About 30% of the 100 million inhabitants of the western Indian Ocean (WIO) region reside in the coastal strip and are heavily dependent on goods and services provided by oceans and coasts. Coastal areas provide food and resources which support the economies of coastal states of the western Indian Ocean such as fisheries, shipping, petroleum exploitation, seabed mining, energy and tourism. Coastal and marine areas house a bounty of biodiversity and the oceans are also responsible for balancing the extremes of climate conditions. However, our efforts to effectively manage the use of coastal resources in a sustainable manner are constrained by inadequate knowledge in the ecosystems and inadequate capacities to generate the knowledge. This is compounded by the... |

This is the third edition of the catalog of reference materials suited for use in marine science, originally compiled in 1986 for NOAA, IOC and UNEP. The catalog lists close to 2,000 reference materials from sixteen producers and contains information about their proper use, sources, availability, and analyte concentrations. Indices are included for elements, isotopes, and organic compounds, as are cross references to CAS registry numbers, alternate names, and chemical structures of selected organic compounds. This catalog is being published independently by both NOAA and IOC/UNEP and is available from NOAA/NOS/ORCA in electronic form. |

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO was founded in 1960 to promote international cooperation and to coordinate programmes in research, services and capacity-building, in order to learn more about the nature and resources of the ocean and coastal areas and to apply that knowledge for the improvement of management, sustainable development, the protection of the marine environment, and the decision-making processes of its Member States. IOC plays a key role as a global broker involving the promotion of science innovation, nurturing programmes, transferring, disseminating and sharing information, data and knowledge, best practices, assessment and scientific services related to Oceanography. This process is done in an inclusive and... |

The OceanDocs Network has been created to provide a multi institutional distributed network of OceanDocs Central and institutional, regional and national repositories to provide a unique access point to marine science publications and research. Until 2011, its’ development had been loosely guided by cooperation between IODE, University of Hasselt, Belgium, and regional Oceanographic Data and Information Networks (ODIN). This first session of the OceanDocs Steering Group builds on the earlier work and takes the OceanDocs Network into the future with a formalized structure and agreed policies. |

The Institute succeeded in realising part of its long-term plan of extending its research activities to cover the entire coastline of Nigeria, with the opening of Sapele Rural Station in Delta State. The station had since commenced operation prioritising farmers' field test and incubation of NIOMR's validated research results and technologies An attempt was made to revitalise the work force through staff upgrading, promotions, confirmation of appointments and retirement from the service. I n all 103 officers in various cadres were affected. New postings were also effected during the year for more effectiveness.All-year-round statistical sampling of landings in the industrial fishing sector continued throughout 1999. Croakers, as usual, dominated the fish... |

This second volume of a guide to integrated coastal zone management opens a new dimension by discussing the processes involved in a more complete and dynamic way than the first, To fulfil1 this requirement, an expanded work group, drawing upon the knowledge of experts in political science, economics, and sociology, devoted over two years of effort (1999 - 2001) to its completion, following a disciplined working method. A dual principle prevailed in the application of this method. On one hand, it prescribed an approach structured as a series of steps, and on the other, it demanded that real situations be brought to light, emphasizing case studies of experience with or analysis of coastal management. |
