Effects of tillage systems and mechanization on work time, fuel and energy consumption for cereal cropping in Austria CIGR Journal
Moitzi, Gerhard; Szalay, Tibor; Schüller, M.; Wagentristl, H.; Refenner, K.; Weingartmann, H.; Liebhard, P.; Boxberger, J.; Gronauer, A..
The machinery stock, fuel consumption and work time are crucial economic factors for the profit potential in the arable farming sector.  The influence of five soil tillage systems (two conventional tillage systems and three conservation tillage systems) and two tractor sizes (92 kW-tractor and 59 kW-tractor) on work time, fuel and energy consumption was measured in the semi-arid region in Austria.  The tractors were equipped with a high-performance flow meter and a radar sensor to measure the fuel consumption (L h-1) and working speed (km h-1).  The conventional tillage with mouldboard plough has the highest working time and fuel consumption rate.  The replacement of plough with a cultivator, reduces the work time and fuel consumption for soil tillage as...

Justification of a finger device for feeding sesame plants into harvester CIGR Journal
Ishpekov, Stoyan Savov.
The objective of the study is giving proof of a technological scheme and the basic parameters of a new device for feeding sesame plants into the harvesting machine at reduced seed scattering. The kinematics of the point of contact between the plant and a finger of the feeder conveyor has been investigated. The laws for the displacement and the velocitty of that point have been synthesized. They have been used to determine the displacement of the contact point on the stem, the kinematic factor of the conveyors, and also to calculate the position of the knife to the point of initial contact of fingers with the plant. The operation of the new device requires adjusting the longitudinal slope of the conveyors from 0° to 10° and their kinematic factor of 1.1 to...

Releasing of seeds by a lateral mechanical impact for feeding sesame stems into harvester CIGR Journal
Ishpekov, Stoyan Savov.
The objective of the study was determination the release of seeds, caused by а lateral mechanical impact for feeding sesame stems into harvester in order to define the conditions for reducing losses. An experimental unit for simulating mentioned impact has been created. The percentage of releasing seeds depending on acceleration and the height of application point of the impact on single stem has been determined. It was found that the feeding of sesame stem into harvester can be achieved by a lateral impact with acceleration up to 0.5 m.s-2 and speed up to 1.05 m.s-1, if the application point has height 0.6 m from the soil surface. This impact causes up to 5% release of seeds from hybrid 27 when their moisture is 6.2%. The percentage of the seeds releasing...

Inertial detachment of sesame seeds from non-squander genotypes CIGR Journal
Ishpekov, Stoyan Savov.
In this study we have experimentally determined the inertial force for releasing seeds from the capsules of six sesame genotypes that had been selected in IPGR- Sadovo, Bulgaria. The influence of seed moisture, the size and direction of the inertial force over the percentage of released seeds has been analyzed. The results of the study have proved that releasing the seeds is possible by inertial impacts, which do not require breaking up of the capsules of the tested sesame genotypes. Compared to the threshing, this impact can be applied to harvesting the seed with twice higher moisture, without mechanical damages and with lower energy consumption.

Cunha,João P. B.; Silva,Fabio M. da; Andrade,Ednilton T.; Barros,Murilo M. de.
ABSTRACT In recent years, the coffee has undergone major changes, and in case of transplanting operation, the use of machinery has proved to be a viable alternative to producers. Prior knowledge of the influence of the variables that influence the operational capability of these machines can generate models to estimate precisely these parameters, thus enabling the optimization and management of mechanized operations. One of this tool is the use of the response surface methodology, which allows checking the influence of different independent variables and the response generated to allow a great value. This study aims to verify the use of the response surface method to determine parameters of mechanized operations in coffee plant implantation. The results...

GRANULOMETRY AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AS INDICATORS OF DISINTEGRATION EFFICIENCY IN A HAMMER MILL ADAPTED TO EXTRACTING ARROWROOT STARCH (Maranta arundinacea) IN COMPARISON TO STARCH EXTRACTION FROM CASSAVA REA
Branco,Fabiano P.; Naka,Marco H.; Cereda,Marney P..
ABSTRACT The commercial sector of starch extraction has fully automated plants with a minimum scale of 200 ton.day–1, which extracts starch from maize and cassava in Brazil. Although these starches are commodities, the market demands starches with special properties obtained without chemical modifications. A higher-priced starch can compensate for small-scale extraction, as in the case of arrowroot starch, which would correspond to an alternative income for the producer. As a small-scale equipment was not available in Brazil, it was necessary to adapt a hammer mill for arrowroot starch extraction, which should have a performance similar to that obtained from cassava roots using industrial grinders. The degree of disintegration and energy consumption were...
