The machinery stock, fuel consumption and work time are crucial economic factors for the profit potential in the arable farming sector. The influence of five soil tillage systems (two conventional tillage systems and three conservation tillage systems) and two tractor sizes (92 kW-tractor and 59 kW-tractor) on work time, fuel and energy consumption was measured in the semi-arid region in Austria. The tractors were equipped with a high-performance flow meter and a radar sensor to measure the fuel consumption (L h-1) and working speed (km h-1). The conventional tillage with mouldboard plough has the highest working time and fuel consumption rate. The replacement of plough with a cultivator, reduces the work time and fuel consumption for soil tillage as... |

The objective of the study is giving proof of a technological scheme and the basic parameters of a new device for feeding sesame plants into the harvesting machine at reduced seed scattering. The kinematics of the point of contact between the plant and a finger of the feeder conveyor has been investigated. The laws for the displacement and the velocitty of that point have been synthesized. They have been used to determine the displacement of the contact point on the stem, the kinematic factor of the conveyors, and also to calculate the position of the knife to the point of initial contact of fingers with the plant. The operation of the new device requires adjusting the longitudinal slope of the conveyors from 0° to 10° and their kinematic factor of 1.1 to... |

The objective of the study was determination the release of seeds, caused by а lateral mechanical impact for feeding sesame stems into harvester in order to define the conditions for reducing losses. An experimental unit for simulating mentioned impact has been created. The percentage of releasing seeds depending on acceleration and the height of application point of the impact on single stem has been determined. It was found that the feeding of sesame stem into harvester can be achieved by a lateral impact with acceleration up to 0.5 m.s-2 and speed up to 1.05 m.s-1, if the application point has height 0.6 m from the soil surface. This impact causes up to 5% release of seeds from hybrid 27 when their moisture is 6.2%. The percentage of the seeds releasing... |

Shortage of labor during the harvest season is one of the problematic situations for farmers in the Malaysian paddy fields. Thus, combine harvester has been utilized massively in Malaysian paddy field for the purpose of assisting the farmers to overcome the problems. Majority use of combine harvesters in the country was provided by the state farmers’ organization that offers custom operators to be hired by the farmers during harvesting seasons. A case study was conducted to identify and rank the factors that affect farmers’ current satisfactions with mechanized harvesting using combine harvesters that offered by custom operators. A group of farmers comprising of 336 respondents at rice granaries in Tanjung Karang district, Selangor, Malaysiawas chosen... |

The main purpose of this study at the first phase was to rank all rice transplanters used in Guilan Province by relevant experts in the area from technical, social, and economic aspects. After the most appropriate type was identified, the technical skillfulness of operators to use this specific type was assessed in the second phase. To this end, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was applied and the opinions of experts for exploring the most appropriate rice transplanter based on ergonomics, economic advantage, reliability, field capacity, ease of use, ease of repairs and access to spare parts, compatibility with plot conditions, planting density range, compatibility with different soil conditions and planting quality perspective was assessed. To... |

The study was conducted in an area of expansion of sugarcane at Vale do Paraná factory in Suzanápolis city - São Paulo (SP), in Brazil, in the northwestern region of the State of São Paulo. It was used the sugarcane variety RB92-5345, 1.5m of spacing between rows, in an Ultisol. The study aimed to evaluate the productivity of sugarcane and first ratoon and some soil chemical attributes in function of soil tillage and application or not of gypsum. The experimental design was randomized blocks with six treatments, in a factorial 3x2 and six replicates, the main treatments were soil tillage with three equipments, moldboard plow, chisel plow, and heavy harrow, and two secondary treatments with application of 1 t ha-1of gypsum and no gypsum. After each harvest... |

The forage production in crop-livestock integration is critical both for formation of straw for no tillage planting and food for livestock farm. The experiment was conducted in the autumn/winter of 2009 and 2010, in the city of Selvíria -state of Mato Grosso do Sul -MS, Brazil, at Experimental Station of FEIS/UNESP. The objective was to evaluate the optimal depth for deposition of seeds of two Brachiaria species intercropped with corn with emphasis on grain yield and straw. The experimental design was a randomized block design in a factorial scheme 3 x 3, with four replications. The main treatments were two species of Brachiaria (Urochloa brizantha "Marandú" and Urochloa ruziziensis), which seeds were mixed with corn fertilizer and a control treatment... |

ABSTRACT We aimed to determine an adequate planting density and arrangement for the mechanized spraying of vertically staked tomatoes. Two experiments were carried out in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 harvests in the city of Calmon, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, both in randomized block design. In 2013/14, treatments were arranged in a 4x2 factorial, corresponding to four planting densities (10,753, 12,903, 16,129 and 21,505 plants/ha) and two planting arrangements (single and double rows). In 2014/15, treatments were arranged in a 5x2 factorial, corresponding to five plant densities (the same planting densities of the previous harvest beyond 32,258 plants/ha) and the same planting arrangements. Total, marketable (considering extra AA and extra A fruits as... |
