Evolution oligo miocène des marges du micro océan Liguro-Provençal ArchiMer
Bache, François.
The Gulf of Lion margin has been created by an Oligo-Aquitanian rifting followed by oceanic accretion in the Provencal basin during the Burdigalian. Two main periods have been detailed in this thesis: • The Messinian event that needs to be differentiated from earlier strata deposition. The event also represents a clear marker (between 7 and 5,3 Ma) within the history of the basin. • The initial period of margin formation, from the beginning of continental extension (35-30 Ma) to oceanisation (around 20 Ma) The database for this study has been built using all available data (seismic and wells from industry) on the shelf, the slope and the deep basin of the Gulf of Lion. The gathering of this huge database occurred in the framework of the French GDRMarges...

Messinian erosional and salinity crises: View from the Provence Basin (Gulf of Lions, Western Mediterranean) ArchiMer
Bache, Francois; Olivet, Jean-louis; Gorini, Christian; Rabineau, Marina; Baztan, Juan; Aslanian, Daniel; Suc, Jean-pierre.
Though the late Miocene "Messinian Salinity Crisis" has been intensely researched along the circum-Mediterranean basins, few studies have focused on the central part of the Mediterranean Basin and, especially, the pre-salt deposits. To improve our knowledge of the Messinian events, it is imperative to better understand this domain. In this study, we provide a more complete understanding of this central domain in the Provence Basin. We were able to recognize: a) thick marine detrital series (up to 1000 m) derived from the Messinian subaerial erosion which is partly prolongated in the distal part by b) a thick unit of deep marine deposits (up to 800 m) prior to the evaporites; c) a thick presumed alternation of detritals and evaporites (1500 m) below the...

Messinian evaporite deposition during sea level rise in the Gulf of Lions (Western Mediterranean) ArchiMer
Bache, Francois; Gargani, Julien; Suc, Jean-pierre; Gorini, Christian; Rabineau, Marina; Popescu, Speranta-maria; Leroux, Estelle; Do Couto, Damien; Jouannic, Gwenael; Rubino, Jean-loup; Olivet, Jean-louis; Clauzon, Georges; Dos Reis, Antonio Tadeu; Aslanian, Daniel.
The Messinian Salinity Crisis resulted from desiccation of the Mediterranean Sea after its isolation from the Atlantic Ocean at the end of the Miocene. Stratal geometry tied to borehole data in the Gulf of Lions show that the pre-crisis continental shelf has been eroded during a major sea-level fall and that sediments from this erosion have been deposited in the basin. This detrital package is onlapped by high amplitude seismic reflectors overlain by the “Messinian Salt” and the “Upper Evaporites”. Towards the shelf, the transition between regressive deposits and overlying onlapping sediments is characterised by a wave-ravinement surface, suggesting that a significant part of the onlapping reflectors and overlying Messinian Evaporites were deposited during...

Martino, E. Di; Taylor, P.D..
We describe 72 ascophoran-grade cheilostomes, ranging in age from Early to Late Miocene (late Burdigalian to Messinian), collected from 17 sections in the vicinities of Samarinda, Bontang and Sangkulirang in East Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. Two genera (Oviexechonella gen. nov. and Sendinopora gen. nov.) and twenty species (?Filaguria kalimantanensis sp. nov., Puellina bontangensis sp. nov., Caberoides gordoni sp. nov., Trypostega hasibuani sp. nov., Oviexechonella digeronimoi sp. nov., Reptadeonella curvabilis sp. nov., Reptadeonella toddi sp. nov., ?Hippomenella devatasae sp. nov., ?Hippomenella uniserialis sp. nov., Margaretta amitabhae sp. nov., Hippopodina indicata sp. nov., Saevitella renemai sp. nov., Gigantopora milenae sp. nov., Arthropoma...

Miocene Bryozoa from East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Part I: Cyclostomata and ‘Anascan’ Cheilostomata Naturalis
Di Martino; Taylor.
The Cenozoic bryozoan fauna of Indonesia has been neglected in the past. In this pioneering study, based on new material collected during the two field seasons of the Throughflow project, we describe a total of 51 bryozoan species, comprising 15 cyclostomes and 36 anascan-grade cheilostomes, ranging in age from Early to Late Miocene (late Burdigalian to Messinian), collected from 17 sections located in the vicinities of Samarinda, Bontang and Sangkulirang in East Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. Eleven of these species are new: Microeciella nadiae sp. nov., Pseudidmonea johnsoni sp. nov., Cranosina rubeni sp. nov., Parellisina mirellae sp. nov., Vincularia berningi sp. nov., Vincularia semarai sp. nov., Vincularia tjaki sp. nov., Vincularia manchanui sp....
