Cooking process evaluation on mercury content in fish Acta Amazonica

This study evaluated different cooking processes (roasted, cooked and fried) on total mercury (Hg) content in fish species most consumed by Manaus residents and surrounding communities, Amazon region. The results obtained for total Hg in natura and after the three types of preparation (roasted, cooked and fried) for 12 fish species showed a significant Hg concentration variation. In the present study the cooked and frying processes resulted in higher Hg losses for Pacu, Pescada, Jaraqui, Curimatã, Surubin and Aruanã fish species, most of them presenting detritivorous and carnivorous feeding habits. Sensorial attributes such as color, texture, acidity and nutritional composition are essential quality components for blackberry (Rubus spp.). The mineral content and quality of fruits of different blackberry cultivars produced in Lavras, Southern Minas Gerais, in a tropical climate at an elevation (Cwb, according to Köppen) were analyzed. The analyzed minerals were phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu) and iron (Fe). Estudos de correlação foram usados para avaliar a metodologias de extração para micronutrientes em solos do Paraná, visando à padronização dos métodos. Foram avaliados extratores ácidos (Mehlich 1), na proporção solo/extrator de 1:5 e 1:10, um extrator ácido complexantes (Mehlich 3), na proporção de 1:10, e um complexante (DTPA), na proporção 1:2. In the current study, complex (coconut water and ripe-banana pulp) and specific (micronutrients, peptone and activated charcoal) supplements were added to Knudson-C medium (KC) medium to stimulate the in vitro propagation of Hadrolaelia purpurata (=Laelia purpurata) and Encyclia randii orchid species. The highest number of H. purpurata seedlings occurred in KC medium containing 90 g L-1 banana pulp maintained with 24-hour illumination. Positive effects of the banana pulp addition in KC medium were reported for the formation of seedlings and leaves from E. randii seeds. Nutrição de micronutrientes em mudas de goiabeira em resposta ao uso de soluções nutritivas - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v30i3.3552 Agronomy

O objetivo do trabalho foi estudar o efeito de diferentes soluções nutritivas sobre a nutrição de micronutrientes em mudas de goiabeira. Foram avaliadas duas cultivares, Paluma e Século XXI, e quatro soluções nutritivas, em esquema fatorial (2x4) com três repetições. Aos 90 dias de cultivo hidropônico, avaliou-se a massa seca e a nutrição de micronutrientes em mudas. As mudas de goiabeira da cultivar Paluma apresentou maior desenvolvimento e exigência nutricional em boro, ferro e manganês, comparado a cultivar século XXI. As soluções nutritivas estudadas não afetaram o acúmulo e também as eficiências de absorção e utilização de micronutrientes das mudas de goiabeira, exceto o cobre e zinco, independentemente da cultivar.

Seed treatment is a low-cost and efficacious method to deliver a diversity of compounds to field crops. This study evaluated the uptake of seed-applied Cu by maize and the effect on seed vigor. The treatments were composed of a control (untreated seeds) and five dosages of Cu: 0.11, 0.22, 0.44, 0.88 and 1.76 mg Cu seed–1, applied as cuprous oxide and copper oxychloride formulations. Seedling emergence and the speed of seedling emergence were determined in three periods: 1, 60 and 120 days after Cu application. Performance of Soybean Seedlings Upon Nutrient Application by Seed Coating BABT

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different seed coatings consisting of various combinations of three nutrients (calcium, magnesium and silicon) on two soybean cultivars (BRS 243 RR and CD 233 RR). Dolomitic limestone and aluminum silicate were chosen as the nutrient sources. Leaf area, plant height, shoots dry matter, crop growth rate, relative growth rate and net assimilation rate were the studied variables, evincing that the seed coating that comprised calcium, magnesium and silicon led to better performance in terms of growth rates 30 days after emergence. Significant differences in the response to the seed coatings were also observed between the two studied soybean genotypes.

Chemical composition of Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. under different management conditions in seven localities of Paraná State BABT

Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. (erva-mate), the mate tea, is a forest tree whose natural distribution in the Brazilian territory embraces the States of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Its economical importance is moreover related to tea production. The purpose of this study is to characterize the leaf chemical composition in relation to different plantation and management conditions. Chemical analysis were performed on plants of different ages,in naturally occurring areas, planted stands, and seedbeds. The most remarkable elements observed in the study were P with average values ranging from 0,5 - 3,2 g kg-1 D.W., Mn values from 346 - 3.330 mg kg-1 D.W., and Al values from 167 - 1.235 mg kg-1 D.W.

ABSTRACT This study assessed the relation between Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in the soils of the mangroves of Antonina and Guaratuba, on the coastline of the State of Paraná, and in the leaf tissues of A. shauerianaR. mangle, and L. racemosa through the analysis of correlation levels between these two compartments. Leaf samples were collected for ten individuals of each species in a 1000 m2 area delimited in each mangrove. Soil samples from 0-10 cm depth were taken from under the crown projection area of the selected trees to be submitted to chemical analysis. To study the deficiency of minerals and its relationship with Paratuberculosis, blood, serum, and fecal samples were obtained from 75 adult bovines without clinical symptoms of the disease and from two bovines with clinical symptoms of the disease, from two beef herds with a previous history of Paratuberculosis in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Serum samples were processed by ELISA and feces were cultured in Herrolds medium. Gaertn. f and Rhizophora mangle L. was analyzed in the mangrove forest of the estuary of São Mateus River, Espírito Santo, Brazil. The current Chilean bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) collection is about 1110 accessions. To facilitate the characterization of this germplasm a core collection of 246 accessions was formed. Little information exists about the mineral content and other quality traits for those bean genotypes. This information could be useful to determine their quality and to promote its consumption. Most studies in the literature regarding the uptake of micronutrients [zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), copper (Cu) and boron (B) accumulation] by sunflower are old. For this reason, this work is aimed to establish curves of sunflower micronutrient accumulation in tropical edaphoclimatic conditions. The experiment was conducted in field on Rhodic Eutrudox, located at the experimental farm of Embrapa Soja in Londrina-PR, using the commercial hybrid BRS 191. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replicates. It was aimed to determine the content of minerals, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity in cheese bread enriched with biofortified cowpea. Two formulations were prepared, standard cheese bread (without cowpea) and enriched cheese bread. Abstract Grape seed oil (GSO) is an important by-product of the wine-making industry which has received attention as an alternative source of vegetable oils; its chemical compounds can be influenced by agricultural practices and industrial processing. Knowledge of the composition of Brazilian GSO is scarce; thus, this study aimed to analyze the chemical characteristics, as well as the antioxidant activity of these oils. GSO samples were obtained from Brazilian markets and showed significantly high amounts of phenolic, γ-tocotrienol and phytosterols as well as, the presence of several volatile compounds.
