Palynologie et environnements des sédiments du Dévonien de Saïda (Algérie nord occidentale) ArchiMer
Bougara, Mohammed; Steemans, Philippe; Le Herisse, Alain; Boulvain, Frederic.
Palynological interpretations of both spores and acritarchs from the Devonian Tiffrit Formation located in Saida (North-Western Algeria) support identical conclusions. Species of spores and acritarches that appear in the upper layers of the younger reference unit, named Boukourdene (BK1), are compatible with a Pragian-Emsian age, based especially on the presence of the miospores Dibolisporites wetteldorfensis, Dictyotriletes emsiensis, D. subgranifer, Verrucosisporites polygonalis, and the acritarchs Evittia crucistellata, E. spicifera, Fimbriaglomerella aulerca, Florisphaeridium toyetae, and Veryhachium aff. V. vandenbergheni. On the basis of occurrences of microconglomeratic levels with elements of Silurian phtanites found along the sedimentary units of...

Miocene fern spores and pollen grains from the Solimões Basin, Amazon Region, Brazil Acta Botanica
Sá,Natália de Paula; Carvalho,Marcelo de Araújo.
ABSTRACT This work documents fern spores and pollen grains (miospores) recovered from rocks of the Solimões Formation (Solimões Basin), their botanical affinities, ecology and distribution in the Miocene of the Amazon Region. The assemblage of miospores is well preserved and diverse. They are identified, illustrated and assigned to the ten families of ferns and 22 families of spermatophytes. All miospores were identified to the taxonomic level of species except for two taxa (Perinomonoletes and Podocarpidites). The families Pteridaceae and Arecaceae were most representative of ferns and spermatophytes, respectively. This work contributes to the knowledge of the paleoflora and will aid in paleoenvironmental, paleoecological and biostratigraphic...

New palynological data from the Devonian Villavicencio Formation, Precordillera of Mendoza, Argentina Ameghiniana
Rubinstein,Claudia V.; Steemans,Philippe.
New terrestrial and marine palynomorphs of the lower part of the Villavicencio Formation, San Isidro Creek, Precordillera of Mendoza, Argentina, are evaluated. The palynomorph assemblage is dominated by miospores, and also contains acritarchs and scarce chitinozoans. Different processing methods have been tested due to the poor preservation state of the palynomorphs. The new slides provided abundant and diverse palynomorphs and allowed the recognition of 13 miospore species and two acritarch species. This review suggests a late Pragian to early Emsian age, thus confirming and refining previous palynological dating. The miospore assemblage may be correlated with the upper part of the Ems Biozone, in terms of the Devonian miospore zonation of the Brazilian...
