ABSTRACT Thousands of years of tradition of olive cultivation in Montenegro is witnessed with the ‘Old olive’ estimated to be more than 2000 years old. ‘Old olive’ draws attention to its genetic potential and the relation to the closest grown olive cultivars. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to give the basic description of ‘Old olive’ (through 20 morphological and 37 chemical properties) as well as to determine its DNA profile and to examine the closeness with major olive cultivar grown, cv. ‘Žutica’. The obtained data showed the differences between examined samples. ‘Old olive’ started flowering (27. May) more than 10 days later than cv. ‘Žutica’ (14. May), and began ripening 15 days later (20th October and 5th October, respectively). From 21... |

Three species of the genus Elaphoidella Chappuis, 1929 (Copepoda, Harpacticoida), from Montenegro are presented. E. uva n.sp., which belongs to the ‘gracilis’ group of species, is described from two subterranean localities in Montenegro, and is most closely related to E. bidens (Schmeil, 1894). E. phreatica (Chappuis, 1925) is reported from several localities, and new synonyms of this species are established. For E. denticulata Chappuis, 1929 this is the most western locality from which it has been recorded, and one new synonym of this species is established. |

This paper examines the role of international technical assistance in building the institutions critical to the success of market reform in the Transition Economies. While there have been many successful grass roots projects aimed at helping individual firms or associations compete in the market, projects aimed at institution building (credit markets, market information, agricultural extension, food safety and animal health regulations, etc.) are not always so successful. These projects succeed only when the recipient Government truly buys into the project and is willing to commit its own resources. These services tend to be public goods, so attempts on the part of donors to bypass Government institutions and privatize these activities are usually not... |
