Is autotoxicity responsible for inhibition growth of new conspecific seedlings under the canopy of the invasive Acacia dealbata Link? Gayana Botánica
Aguilera,Narciso; Guedes,Lubia M.; Becerra,José; González,Luis.
ABSTRACT Autotoxicity is a particular form of allelopathy and is suspected to be responsible for regulating intraspecific competition under the Acacia dealbata Link (Fabaceae) canopy. Was established a bioassay with controlled conditions following the natural patterns of plant material accumulation under the A. dealbata canopy to determine the effects of chemical compounds released by leaves, bark, flowers and pods of the invasive species on germination and early growth of conspecific seedlings. Morphological changes caused by A. dealbata plant parts in roots of A. dealbata seedlings grown in natural and controlled conditions were evaluated with scanning electron microscopy. The composition and behavior of the phytotoxicity of litter under the A. dealbata...

Ostracoberyx paxtoni, nouvelle espèce des côtes est de l'Australie. Remarques sur les modifications morphologiques des Ostracoberyx au cours de leur croissance (Perciformes, ostracoberycidae) ArchiMer
Quero, Jean-claude; Ozouf-costaz, C.
A new species of Ostracoberyx, O. paxtoni n. sp. is described from eastern Australia. It is characterized by a lower number of gill rakers on the lower part of the gill arch and by differences in some morphometric characters (body depth, interorbital width, etc.). The marked difference in appearance between young and adults in O. paxtoni as well as in O. dorygenys are underlined. O. Tricornis is considered to be based on juvenile of O. dorygenys and is a junior synonym of the latter. NOT CONTROLLED OCR

Influence of morphological changes on suspended sediment dynamics in a macrotidal estuary: diachronic analysis in the Seine Estuary (France) from 1960 to 2010 ArchiMer
Grasso, Florent; Le Hir, Pierre.
Estuaries are subject to extensive morphological changes through human activities, such as deepening and narrowing via dredging and channelization. The estuary sediment load, characterised by the estuarine turbidity maximum (ETM), can severely increase in response to channel deepening, shifting the estuary from a natural to hyperturbid state. The main processes driving the estuarine circulation, hydrology and sediment dynamics are relatively well known. However, their relative influence on suspended sediment concentration (SSC), as well as their role in the transition toward hyperturbid estuaries, is still a subject of debate. Therefore, this study aims at investigating the relative contribution of key estuarine drivers (gravitational circulation and tidal...

Effects of Sildenafil on Dental Pulp: Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Evaluation International Journal of Morphology
Söker,Sevda; Deveci,Engin; Yaman,Ferhan; Atilgan,Serhat; Ipek,Fikret; Uysal,Ibrahim.
Sildenafil is a strong peripheral vasodilator and is used to treat cardiovascular and neurosurgery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immunohistochemical and ultrastructural effects of sildenafil on dental pulp of rats. The study was performed with adult female Wistar-Albino rats. Control group (n= 7) were fed on standard laboratory diet until surgery. The study group (n= 7) were administered sildenafil orally with orogastric tube 10 mg·kg-1 once a day for 30 days. Each rat was anesthetized and incisor teeth were removed. This study examined the immunohistochemical and ultrastructural effects of sildenafil on the dental pulp in rats. The relaxation from the vessel, endothelial cell hyperplasia, moderate degeneration of collagen fibers were...

Morpho-Architectural Traits that Allow the Regeneration of Eustachys retusa (poaceae) in Systems with Intensive Glyphosate Application Planta Daninha
PANIGO,E.S.; ALESSO,C.A.; DELLAFERRERA,I.M.; OLIVELLA,J.; PERRETA,M.G..
ABSTRACT Eustachys retusa has low sensitivity to glyphosate at the reproductive stage. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of glyphosate on adult E. retusa plants in order to identify the traits that make possible their regeneration in no-tillage systems. For this purpose, reproductive-stage specimens from wild populations were treated with glyphosate at two different rates (480 and 1,200 g a.i. ha-1) including a non-treated control. Results demonstrated that glyphosate could control E. retusa plants at reproductive stage at 1,200 g a.i. ha-1 dose. However, a certain proportion of plants can survive despite having full chlorosis as a consequence of basal bud activation (bud bank) and the presence of reserves in the rhizome. These...

Circulation and suspended sediment dynamics in a tropical estuary under different morphological setting Anais da ABC (AABC)
PAIVA,BÁRBARA P.; SCHETTINI,CARLOS A.F.; PEREIRA,MARÇAL D.; SIEGLE,EDUARDO; MIRANDA,LUIZ B.; ANDUTTA,FERNANDO P..
ABSTRACT Estuarine processes are directly related to the interaction of its forcing conditions with the local morphology. In this study we assess the implications of the opening of a new inlet on the hydrodynamics and suspended sediment concentration (SSC). A set of physical parameters have been measured in the Itanhém river estuary, a small, shallow and mangrove fringed tropical estuary in Northeastern Brazil. Field surveys have been conducted in August 2007 and January 2008, separated by an important morphological change. Our observations show that even shortening the lower estuary channel in 2 km, the inlet opening did not imply in changes in the estuarine circulation. However, SSC increased after the inlet opening. General estuarine circulation showed...

ABSTRACTCasearia sylvestris Swartz is a medicinal plant widely distributed in Brazil. It has anti-inflammatory, antiulcer and antitumor activities and is popularly used to treat snakebites, wounds, diarrhea, flu and chest colds. Its leaves are rich in oxygenated tricyclic cis-clerodane diterpenes, particulary casearins. Herein, we evaluated the antioxidant activities of a fraction with casearins (FC) isolated from C. sylvestrisand histological changes on the central nervous system and livers of Mus musculus mice. Firstly, in vitro studies (0.9, 1.8, 3.6, 5.4 and 7.2 μg/mL) revealed EC50 values of 3.7, 6.4 and 0.16 µg/mL for nitrite, hydroxyl radical and TBARS levels, respectively. Secondly, FC (2.5, 5, 10 and 25 mg/kg/day) was intraperitoneally...
