Zymoseptoria gen. nov.: a new genus to accommodate Septoria-like species occurring on graminicolous hosts Naturalis
Quaedvlieg, W.; Kema, G.H.J.; Groenewald, J.Z.; Verkley, G.J.M.; Seifbarghi, S.; Razavi, M.; Mirzadi Gohari, A.; Mehrabi, R.; Crous, P.W..
The Mycosphaerella complex is both poly- and paraphyletic, containing several different families and genera. The genus Mycosphaerella is restricted to species with Ramularia anamorphs, while Septoria is restricted to taxa that cluster with the type species of Septoria, S. cytisi, being closely related to Cercospora in the Mycosphaerellaceae. Species that occur on graminicolous hosts represent an as yet undescribed genus, for which the name Zymoseptoria is proposed. Based on the 28S nrDNA phylogeny derived in this study, Zymoseptoria is shown to cluster apart from Septoria. Morphologically species of Zymoseptoria can also be distinguished by their yeast-like growth in culture, and the formation of different conidial types that are absent in Septoria s.str....

Molecular characteristics and virulence gene profiles of Staphylococcus aureus causing bloodstream infection BJID
Li,Xuehan; Fang,Fang; Zhao,Jin; Lou,Ning; Li,Chenglin; Huang,Tao; Li,Yirong.
ABSTRACT Background: The rate of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) among the total of S. aureus isolates decreased to 35.3% in 2017 in China. It is unclear whether the molecular characteristics of S. aureus isolates have changed as the rate decreased. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the molecular characteristics and virulence genes profile of S. aureus isolates causing bloodstream infection and analyze the correlation between the prevalence rates of the common sequence types and MRSA. Methods: A total of 112 S. aureus strains from eight hospitals of four cities, including 32 MRSA isolates, were identified and evaluated through multilocus sequence typing, spa typing, and determination of virulence genes. Results: Twenty-five...

Molecular epidemiology of Streptococcus agalactiae isolated from mastitis in Brazilian dairy herds BJM
Carvalho-Castro,Glei A.; Silva,Juliana R.; Paiva,Luciano V.; Custódio,Dircéia A.C.; Moreira,Rafael O.; Mian,Glaucia F.; Prado,Ingrid A.; Chalfun-Junior,Antônio; Costa,Geraldo M..
Abstract Streptococcus agalactiae is one of the most common pathogens leading to mastitis in dairy herds worldwide; consequently, the pathogen causes major economic losses for affected farmers. In this study, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), genotypic capsular typing by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and virulence gene detection were performed to address the molecular epidemiology of 59 bovine (mastitis) S. agalactiae isolates from 36 dairy farms located in the largest milk-producing mesoregions in Brazil (Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, and Pernambuco). We screened for the virulence genes bac, bca, bibA, cfb, hylB, fbsA, fbsB, PI-1, PI-2a, and PI-2b, which are associated with adhesion, invasion, tissue damage, and/or immune evasion....
