Unilateral and Ipsilateral Strength Asymmetries in Elite Youth Soccer Players With Respect to Muscle Group and Limb Dominance International Journal of Morphology
Maly,Tomas; Zahalka,Frantisek; Mala,Lucia.
The purpose of study was to identify the presence of strength asymmetries (SA) in young elite soccer players in relation to muscle group (knee extensors (KE) and flexors (KF)) and limb preference (dominant vs. non-dominant limb). Forty-one U16 national team soccer players (mean age 15.7±0.3 years, body height 177.9±6.6 cm, body weight 68.2±7.9 kg) participated in this study. Assessments were performed on a Cybex Humac Norm isokinetic dynamometer in concentric contraction. We noted the degree of SAs in the bilateral ratio of quadriceps and hamstrings and in the ipsilateral ratio of the dominant (DL) and non-dominant (NL) legs. Bilateral deficits of KFs were higher (9.0212.61 %) than those of KFs (6.327.15 %). The percentage of SA (>10 %) in knee...

Isometric handgrip strength of agricultural workers from northeast region of India CIGR Journal
Patel, Thaneswer; Sanjog, J; Karmakar, Sougata.
Handgrip strength is considered as one of the most important factors for performing various agricultural tasks related to torqueing, lifting, pulling, pushing, etc. Hand tools and equipment which are designed based on anthropometric/strength data of different population, may not be suitable for any particular targeted user group. As a result work related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) at upper extremity may occur very often. Lack of strength data of Assamese population (people of Assam, a state in northeast India), motivated present authors to conduct a survey on isometric handgrip strength data of 200 agricultural workers (130 male and 70 female, aged 17-62 years) from the Kamrup district of the state. Maximal isometric handgrip strength was determined...

Effects of 174 G/C polymorphism in the promoter region of the interleukin-6 gene on plasma IL-6 levels and muscle strength in elderly women BJMBR
Pereira,D.S.; Garcia,D.M.; Narciso,F.M.S.; Santos,M.L.A.S.; Dias,J.M.D.; Queiroz,B.Z.; Souza,E.R.; Nóbrega,O.T.; Pereira,L.S.M..
We investigated the effect of -174 G/C single-nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter region of the IL6 gene on plasma IL-6 levels and muscle strength, and the relationship between IL-6 levels and muscle strength in elderly women. The sample consisted of 199 elderly residents (73.0 ± 7.8 years old) from rest homes and the community in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil. -174 G/C polymorphism was determined by direct sequencing of the product by PCR, and plasma IL-6 concentrations were measured by ELISA. Muscle strength in the knee joint was evaluated using a Biodex System 3 Pro® isokinetic dynamometer. ANCOVA was used to determine the effect of polymorphism on IL-6 levels and muscle strength, and the Pearson correlation coefficient to assess the relationship...
