Water consumption when exposed to sun and shade for native goats in the semiarid of the State of Paraiba, Brazil REA
Furtado,Dermeval A.; Leite,Jackson R. de S.; Nascimento,Jose W. B. do; Leal,Antonio F.; Silva,Andrea S..
This work aimed to evaluate the preference and water consumption of native goats in the semiarid of Brazil. The water was freely supplied, in individual buckets, one exposed to the sun and the other in the shade. The experiment was realized using 18 animals of Moxotó, Graúna and Azul breeds, with average weight of 16,6 ± 2,4 kg, kept in confinement in individual stalls equipped with feeders and drinkers, during the period from January to February of 2009. The water temperature was measured by sensors (thermocouples type T - copper/constantan), which were coupled to a system of data acquisition. It was observed that the average water temperature exposed to the sun was 29.02 ºC, and 23.85 ºC in the shade. For all breeds there was a preference for the water...

Genetic characterization of the Moxotó goat breed using RAPD markers PAB
Oliveira,Rejane Rodrigues de; Egito,Andréa Alves do; Ribeiro,Maria Norma; Paiva,Samuel Rezende; Albuquerque,Maria do Socorro Maués; Castro,Silvia Ribeiro; Mariante,Arthur da Silva; Adrião,Manuel.
The objective of this study was to verify the genetic diversity between and within seven populations of Moxotó goat (n = 264) from the States of Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte, using RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA). Moxotó, as well as other naturalized breeds, suffers genetic losses due to the indiscriminate miscegenation with breeds raised in the Northeast Region of Brazil. The genetic characterization of these genetic resources is essential to conservation and breeding programs. DNA was extracted from lymphocytes using a non-organic protocol. The 16 primers used were selected from 120 decamer oligonucleotide primers and generated 56 polymorphic bands. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that the greater part of total...

Spanyolul tanul a magyar mangalica! AgEcon
Torok, Aron.
A sonkákat gyártó spanyol vállalat felismerte a mangalicában rejlő lehetőséget, azt, hogy a mangalica zsiradékkal finoman átszőtt húsának összetétele nagymértékben hasonlít annak az ibérico sertésfajtának a húsához, amiből a termékeiket gyártják. A spanyolok felvásárolták az állatok számukra értékes részeit, s hazánkban egyre többen fogtak ismét a mangalica tartásába. Az 1990-es évek második felétől kezdve a mangalica reneszánszát éli. Egyre több hazai húsüzem kezdett ismét mangalicát feldolgozni, önálló mangalica termékcsaládokkal megjelenve a piacokon. A mangalicák törzskönyvezését az újra megalakult Mangalicatenyésztők Országos Egyesülete végzi, s csak az a sertés nevezhető mangalicának, amelyről az egyesület igazolást ad....

Characteristics of carcass and non-carcass components in feedlot native goats in the Brazilian semiarid region R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Andrea Souza da; Furtado,Dermeval Araújo; Medeiros,Ariosvaldo Nunes de; Costa,Roberto Germano; Cezar,Marcílio Fontes; Pereira Filho,José Morais.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of carcass and non-carcass components in Brazilian semi-arid native goats of different genotypes in feedlot system. It was used 30 non-castrated Azul, Graúna and Moxotó goats with average initial weight of 15.93 ± 2.4, distributed in a completely randomized design with 3 genotypes and 10 replicates. The experimental diet used had a roughage:concentrate ratio of 47:53. There was a significant effect for weight gain and subcutaneous fat thickness according to genotype. Retail cut yields did not differ among the studied breeds. The percentage of non-carcass components in relation to live weight and empty body weight were not different among genotypes. Graúna and Azul genotypes showed daily gain...

Metabolic dynamics of native lambs fed with Tifton 85 hay or Maniçoba hay associated with the spineless cactus Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Soares,P.C.; Gouveia,L.N.F.; Silva,T.G.P.; O. Filho,E.F.; Carvalho,F.F.R.; Batista,Â.M.V.; Lima Júnior,D.M.; Cardoso,D.B..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the metabolic response of native lambs fed Tifton 85 hay (Cynodon dactylon) or Maniçoba hay (Manihot pseudoglaziovii) associated with spineless cactus (Nopalea cochenillifera Salm Dyck). Sixteen Morada Nova lambs were used, with a mean initial weight of 19.36±1.48kg, distributed in a randomized block design, with two treatments and eight replications. Dry matter intake was higher for lambs fed Maniçoba hay compared to Tifton hay, while the body weight at slaughter was not influenced by diets. Regarding the blood metabolites, only the serum concentration of urea was influenced, with higher value observed in the lambs that fed the diet containing Tifton hay. When analyzing blood biomarkers, in the...
