Mechanisms of Endothelial Protection by Natural Bioactive Compounds from Fruit and Vegetables Anais da ABC (AABC)
MONSALVE,BERNARDITA; CONCHA-MEYER,ANIBAL; PALOMO,IVÁN; FUENTES,EDUARDO.
ABSTRACT The endothelium is fundamental for the regulation of vascular tone and structure. Under disease conditions, including the presence of cardiovascular disease risk factors, the endothelium loses its protective role and becomes a proatherosclerotic structure. In this article we searched for strategies from PUBMED and Science Direct databases using the following key words: endothelium, natural bioactive compounds, polyphenols and cardiovascular diseases. The search was restricted to english language papers. Studies have identified the contribution of diet to the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. In this context, high intakes of fruit and vegetables are associated with the decrease of cardiovascular diseases. Thus the most important...

Development and characterization of orally-disintegrating films for propolis delivery Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
Borges,Josiane Gonçalves; Tagliamento,Marina; Silva,Aline Guerra; Sobral,Paulo José do Amaral; Carvalho,Rosemary Aparecida de.
This study aimed at evaluating the effect of different concentrations of hydrolyzed collagen (HC) on the properties of an orally disintegrating film containing propolis ethanol extract (PEE) as an active component. The films were evaluated in terms of total phenols, mechanical properties, solubility, contact angle, disintegration time, and microstructure. The films were prepared by casting with 2 g of protein mass (gelatin and HC), 30 g of sorbitol/100 g of protein mass, and 100 g of PEE/100 g of protein mass. HC was incorporated at concentrations of 0, 10, 20, and 30 g/100 g of protein mass. It was found that increased concentrations of HC reduced tensile strength and increased elongation; however, all films showed plastic behavior. An increase in...
