| ABSTRACT In the Amazon, the growing demand for fish has been boosting the expansion of fish farms. However, the intensification of cultivation can generate disequilibrium in the parasite-host environment, predisposing fish to parasitic infections. The objective of this study was to evaluate the community structure of metazoan parasites in cultivation systems of piauçu, Leporinus macrocephalus, in the state of Acre, Brazil. We examined 100 specimens from a semi-intensive cultivation system (earth tanks) and 100 from an extensive system (dams). Overall 66.5% of the hosts were parasitized. | Nenhum estudo de peixes e parasitos foi realizado, até o momento, no Lago do Parque do Ingá que sofre influências antrópicas desde seu represamento, em 1970. Este trabalho analisou alguns aspectos ecológicos dos parasitos metazoários dos peixes deste lago. Dos peixes analisados, (69,5%) estavam parasitados por pelo menos uma espécie de parasito. Foram encontrados 1.372 parasitos pertencentes à Nematoda (larvas) e Platyhelminthes (Monogenea e Cestoda), sendo estes os mais prevalentes e numerosos. O encontro de larvas de cestóides em Tilapia rendalli e Oreochromis niloticus confirma a importância destas espécies como participantes de níveis tróficos intermediários. | Las aves acuáticas, como el pato triguero (Anas platyrhynchos diazi), son portadoras de parásitos que pueden afectar a las poblaciones de diferentes especies distribuidas en el altiplano zacatecano, México. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivos identificar las especies de helmintos de la población de pato triguero del altiplano zacatecano, y comparar la composición de helmintos de acuerdo al sexo de los patos. Se recolectaron aleatoriamente 24 patos triguero (14 machos y 10 hembras) de en los cuerpos de agua: presa La Zacatecana, bordo El Maguey, bordo Matanuzka y sistema de bordos de la UMA Los Jales del altiplano zacatecano. | Abstract: Lutjanids are marine fish and commonly inhabit coral reefs, which have migratory habits and feed in a general way, due to these characteristics, are susceptible to infections by parasites, such as cuculanid nematodes. This work aimed to report for the first time, the occurrence of Dichelyne (Dichelyne) bonacii in Brazil, in two new hosts, Lutjanus analis and Rhomboplites aurorubens, acquired from local artisanal fishermen at the Aracaju city public fishing terminal (10 ° 54’17 “S37 ° 2’56” W), northeast coast of Brazil. | Registrou-se a ocorrência de A. vasorum em C. thous no Estado de Minas Gerais, e estudaram-se aspectos de sua ecologia nessa população de hospedeiros. A partir da necropsia de seis espécimes, observou-se a presença de A. vasorum nos pulmões e átrio direito de C. thous. No total foram coletados 24 espécimes de A. vasorum, com prevalência de 50%, abundância média de 4±4,47, intensidade média de 8±3,00 e razão sexual (machos/fêmeas) de 1:1,19. As infrapopulações de A. vasorum apresentaram padrão de distribuição espacial agregado (ID=5,70 e K=0,355). Este é o primeiro registro de A. vasorum em C. thous no estado, descrito no município de Juiz de Fora. |

| The effect of Goezia leporini Martins & Yoshitoshi, 2003 (Nematoda: Anisakidae) infection on the haematological characteristics of cultivated Leporinus macrocephalus (Osteichthyes:Anostomidae) was studied. Paleness of gills, kidneys, liver and heart, black spots on the kidney and accumulation of fluid in the visceral cavity, stomach and intestines were observed. Gall bladder content had pale and translucent aspect. Strong and slight positive correlations between number of nematodes and fish weight were estimated within the 0-100g and 100-200g fish weight group, respectively. | This trial registered the experimental infection viability with nematode larvae Camallanus sp. in Notodiaptomus sp., a crustacean, which can be an intermediate host. Adult females of nematode were dissected from the intestines of Xiphophorus maculatus (Osteichthyes: Poeciliidae), at a fish farm in the State of São Paulo. Females were slightly compressed for larvae release, collected with Pasteur pipette and separated on Petri dishes with 9ml filtered water at 28.1ºC, from zooplankton culture. | Abstract We investigated the parasites of five lizard species belonging to Phyllodactylidae (Phyllopezus pollicaris and Gymnodactylus geckoides) and Gekkonidae (Hemidactylus agrius, Lygodactylus klugei and Hemidactylus brasilianus) families in a semiarid region of Brazil. | From 36 capybaras, slaughtered between 1989 and 1996, 11 young, less than 6 months old, and 25 adults, in the floodplain region of Mato Grosso do Sul, 570 Filarioidea nematodes were collected. Three hundred and ninety-four specimen of Cruorifilaria tuberocauda were collected from the renal arteries (380) and from pulmonary arteries (14) and 176 specimen of Yatesia hydrochoerus from the fasciae of skeleptical muscles, mainly from the obliquus externus abdominis region and from the internal faces of hind limbs. |

| Com o objetivo de estudar a fauna parasitológica dos ofídios do serpentário da UNIFENAS - Universidade de Alfenas, MG, foram necropsiados alguns espécimes de cascavéis (Crotalus durissus terrificus) e urutus (Bothrops alternatus), mantidos em cativeiro. Esses animais apresentavam anorexia, desidratação, diarréia, anemia e morte em torno de dois meses após o início dos sinais clínicos. Foram identificados helmintos dos gêneros Kalicephalus, Ophidascaris, Rhabdias e Oxyuris; protozoários do gênero Haemogregarina e acarinos do gênero Ophionysus. Aos sobreviventes foi administrado tratamento específico com Ivermectin, bem como terapia auxiliar à base de vitamina A e complexo B. |

| The present work studied helminth parasites of "pacu-manteiga", Myleus tiete (Osteichthyes: Characidae) from Volta Grande Reservoir, MG, Brazil. Fishes with 142.6 ± 24.7 g weight and 17.3 ± 1.0 cm total length were collected. Five out six analysed fish (prevalence 83.3%) were parasitized in the intestine with an average of 535.6 ± 334.6 oxyurid nematodes per fish. | Trichuris spp. Roederer, 1761 (Nematoda: Trichuridae) foi coletado pela primeira vez em capivaras selvagens em uma área de exploração pecuária na região do Banhado do Taim, Município de Rio Grande, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Brasil. Foi encontrado um total de 439 espécimes deste nematódeo em 12 de 24 animais examinados. A intensidade média e a abundância encontradas foram 36,58 e 18,29, respectivamente. A intensidade de parasitismo variou de dois a 249 espécimes por animal parasitado. A intensidade média de infecção diferiu significativamente entre animais jovens e adultos, com valores mais elevados para jovens. Este relato caracteriza a capivara como um novo hospedeiro para este gênero de nematoda. |

| Se realizó una investigación cuantitativa de la fauna parasitaria del anfibio Atelopus bomolochus Peters 1973 (Bufonidae). treintaytres especímenes fueron colectados manualmente de las inmediaciones del río Seco (80° 9'22'' LW, 5° 5'19'' LS), en las cercanías de la localidad de Chulucanas, provincia de Morropón, departamento de Piura, Perú en octubre del 2000. En total se colectaron 7 especies y 13.268 especímenes. Veintyocho hospederos estuvieron parasitados (84,8 %). | Cephalobium bidentatum sp. nov., parasitizing nymphs of Gryllodes laplatae Sauss (Orthoptera, Gryllidae) from Argentina, is described and illustrated. It is distinguished from other members of the genus Cephalobium COBB, 1920, by having the buccal cavity very sclerotized with two hook-shaped teeth, vagina short and muscular, male has two spicules with hook-shaped tips, and by the distribution pattern of the postanal papillae: one pair under the anus, three pairs between the anus and the tail, and two pairs at the base of the tail appendage. |
