Dicyandiamide as nitrification inhibitor of pig slurry ammonium nitrogen in soil Ciência Rural
Gonzatto,Rogério; Stüker,Fernanda; Aita,Celso; Giacomini,Sandro José; Lüdtke,Roberto Carlos; Dessbesell,Alexandre; Giacomini,Diego Antonio; Pujol,Stefen Barbosa.
ABSTRACT: Inhibition of nitrification of ammoniacal nitrogen pig slurry after its application to the soil can mitigate nitrogen (N) losses by nitrate (NO3 -) denitrification and leaching, with economical and environmental benefits. However, the use of this strategy is incipient in Brazil and, therefore, requires further assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of dicyandiamide (DCD) nitrification inhibitor in slowing the nitrification of ammoniacal N applied to the soil with pig slurry (PS). For this, incubation was performed in laboratory, where nitrification was assessed by NO3 - accumulation in the soil. Rates of 2.8, 5.7 and 11.3kg DCD ha-1 were compared, being applied to the soil during PS addition. Nitrification was inhibited...

Modelling the impact of a cultivated oyster population on the nitrogen dynamics: the Thau lagoon case (France) ArchiMer
Bacher, Cedric; Bioteau, Hélène; Chapelle, Annie.
The Thau lagoon (France) is an important site for the cultivation of Crassastrea gigas. The relationship belween the oyster population and the environment was assessed through a model of trophic relationships. The results represent the initial step lowards a more precise assessment of the biological fluxes in the lagoon. This preliminary model was based on the nitrogen dynamics among the following compartments: phytoplankton, zooplankton. oysters. detritus and dissolved inorganic nitrogen in the water column. Two other compartments were also considered in the sediment: detritus and dissolved nitrogen. The model considered the watershed input and seawater exchange belween the lagoon and the open sea . The parameters were estimated from experiments on oyster...

Ammonia Volatilization from Soil-Applied Organic Fertilizers Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Rocha,Adriano Alvim; Araújo,Ednaldo da Silva; Santos,Silvio da Silva; Goulart,Jhonatan Marins; Espindola,José Antonio Azevedo; Guerra,José Guilherme Marinho; Alves,Bruno José Rodrigues; Rouws,Janaina Ribeiro Costa.
ABSTRACT: A reliable quantification of nitrogen (N) losses by ammonia (NH3) volatilization can contribute to identifying optimized strategies of fertilizer management. The objective of this study was to quantify ammonia volatilization from several organic N sources incorporated into or applied onto the soil surface. Two cultivation areas, under snap bean and corn, were evaluated at Embrapa Agrobiology, Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Both experiments used a randomized complete block design in split-plots, with four replications. The main plots consisted of four organic fertilizers (castor bean cake, bokashi, legume fertilizers, cattle manure), at rates of 200 kg ha-1 N, and a control treatment (without fertilization), and the subplots corresponded to the...
