Productive performance and efficiency of utilization of the diet components in dairy cows fed castor meal treated with calcium oxide R. Bras. Zootec.
Cobianchi,Juliana Variz; Oliveira,André Soares de; Campos,José Maurício de Souza; Guimarães,Amanda Vasconcelos; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Cobianchi,Flávio Pereira; Oliveira,Thalita Evani Silva de.
The effect of replacing of 0; 0.33; 0.67 and 1.0 (kg/kg) of soybean meal (SBM) by undecorticated castor seed meal treated with calcium oxide (CMT - 60 g/kg) was evaluated on performance and efficiency of nutrient utilization in dairy cows. Sixteen Holstein and crossbred cows were distributed in four 4 × 4 latin squares. Animals received concentrated feed at a ratio of 1 kg for 3 kg of milk produced, in the natural matter. The diets had the same amount of nitrogen (150.4 g crude protein/kg DM), containing 325.6 g of concentrated feed/kg DM. There was no effect on the serum concentration of transaminase and the animals showed no clinical symptoms of intoxication by ricin. The intake of DM, crude protein (CP) and non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) reduced from...

Evaluation of acid detergent insoluble protein as an estimator of rumen non-degradable protein in tropical grass forages Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Clipes,R.C.; Detmann,E.; Silva,J.F.C.; Vieira,R.A.M.; Nunes,L.B.M.; Lista,F.N.; Ponciano,N.J..

Waterborne ammonia and silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen: survival and growth Ciência Rural
Miron,Denise dos Santos; Becker,Alexssandro Geferson; Loro,Vania Lúcia; Baldisserotto,Bernardo.
The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of waterborne un-ionized ammonia (NH3) on the survival and growth of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen). Juveniles were exposed to 0.10, 0.22, and 0.42mg L-1 NH3 at pH 8.2 for 45 days. After 15 days, a significant mortality rate (33%) was observed in the fish exposed to 0.42mg L-1 NH3. After 20 days, 23% and 43% mortality (both significant) was observed in fish exposed to 0.22 and 0.42mg L-1 NH3, respectively. A significant negative relationship between survival, length, daily weight gain, standard growth rate, and biomass of juveniles of silver catfish per tank with waterborne NH3 levels was found at the end of the experiment. The resulting survival and waterborne NH3 relationship indicated that, to...

Free amino acids in the xylem sap of pear trees during dormancy Ciência Rural
Marafon,Anderson Carlos; Herter,Flavio Gilberto; Hawerroth,Fernando José; Bierhals,Adriana Neutzling.
ABSTRACT: Storage and remobilization are considered key processes for the effective use of nitrogen in temperate fruit trees. As dormancy begins, storage proteins are synthesized, coinciding with a reduction in the levels of free amino acids. Consequently, as dormancy breaks, these storage proteins are degraded, and an increase in the concentrations of amino acids occurs, in order to support new growth. The objective of this study was to evaluate water content of different vegetative tissues (buds, bark, and bole wood), volume of xylem sap, and free amino acid concentrations of xylem sap, during winter dormancy of Hosui Japanese pear trees (VL). Plant material was obtained from the Embrapa Temperate Climate experimental orchard at Pelotas, in the state of...
