The phylogenetic relationships of the caryophyllidia-bearing dorids are studied, based on the examination of the type species of all the genera previously described. The phylogenetic hypothesis supports that the caryophyllidia-bearing dorids area monophyletic group and the sister group of the clade formed by Asteronotus Ehrenberg, 1831 and Halgerda Bergh, 1880. Several genera previously considered as valid or regarded as uncertain are here synonymized: Peronodoris Bergh, 1904, Trippa Bergh, 1877, Phlegmodoris Bergh, 1878, Petelodoris Bergh, 1881, Kentrodoris Bergh, 1876, Audura Bergh, 1878, Centrodoris P. Fischer, 1883, Anisodoris Bergh, 1898, Awuka Er. Marcus, 1955, Rhabdochila P Fischer, 1883, Boreodoris Odhner, 1939, Dictyodoris Bergh, 1880, Gravieria... |

During the NNM/Maluku Expedition 1996, in the framework of the NNM Fauna Malesiana Marine Program, a shrimp belonging to the species Periclimenes imperator Bruce, 1967, was found on a nudibranch while diving at 20 m depth in Seri Bay, on the south coast of Ambon. Periclimens imperator has been recorded throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific, from East Africa and the Red Sea to Hawaii, from nudibranch and holothurian hosts. The nudibranch was identified as Chromodorus magnifica (Quoy & Gaimard, 1832) (see Rudman, 1982: 216-219, figs. 17A, B, 18, 19). The association with Chromodorus magnifica is recorded here for the first time. |

Doto uva Marcus, 1955 is a nudibranch species recorded from the Brazilian and Chilean coast. In spite of its wide distribution, D. uva has been described only superficially, mainly as to the pattern of its coloration, external morphology, radular teeth and reproductive system. Here we substantially extend this description, paying special attention to the morphology, anatomy and histology of the digestive and reproductive system. Furthermore, new data on the morphology of the central nervous system and its cell types are given, and finally, the egg mass is described. On the basis of these data, we consider the Doto specimens described from Chile conspecific with those from Brazil. |

Twenty-one species belonging to the family Chromodorididae and one species of Hexabranchus (Hexabranchidae) are present in the 1990 Rumphius Biohistorical Expedition (RBE) collection. The 1996 Fauna Malesiana Marine Maluku Expedition (Mal) collected 43 lots of nudibranchs, mostly chromodorids: 17 species were identified, six of which were not represented in the RBE collection. A total of 35 chromodorid species, belonging to nine genera, are described from Ambon and nearby localities. Four species are new to science, and seventeen species are recorded from Indonesian waters for the first time. Brief descriptions are given for the species which are well known, highlighting significant features, differentiating characters from similar species, and allowing... |

The southern Chilean archipelago and fjordland (41-52° S) thus far is very poorly investigated also with regard to its nudibranch fauna. This study presents the first records of nudibranchs from remote islands of the Chonos archipelago exposed to the open Pacific. Collecting data and some biological observations are given for the doridoidean Archidoris fontaini, Diaulula punctuolata and Rostanga pulchra. Taxonomically relevant external and radular characters of R. pulchra are redescribed and compared with literature data on conspecifics from Argentina and California. The bipolar, cold-water adapted R. pulchra is critically compared with the western Atlantic, warm-water adapted R. byga. New distributional data indicates that the Chiloé Island area (41-43°... |
