PERFECTION OF CURRENCY RESERVE POLICY TO INCREASE INNOVATIVE ACTIVITY IN INDUSTRIAL SECTOR OF KAZAKHSTAN AgEcon

Kazakhstan has accumulated essential foreign currency stocks from resource-based export earnings since gaining independency. These reserves can serve as base for creation of competitive industries. To realize the task the paper recommends policies of rational use of these funds to finance innovative investment projects in priority industries. The paper argues that rational channeling of foreign currency reserves in Kazakhstan can contribute to increase of innovative activity in industrial sector of economy.

Economic Growth and Transition in Vietnam and China and its Consequences for their Agricultural Sectors: Policy and Agricultural Adjustment Issues AgEcon

Secondary data are used to discuss and compare the consequences for agriculture of economic growth and transition in Vietnam and China. It is found that China and Vietnam have experienced similar adjustments in their agricultural sectors and face at this time, similar agricultural policy problems. China began its economic reforms in 1979 and Vietnam followed in 1986. Since then both countries have experienced rapid economic growth, falling poverty rates and significant rises in per capita income. At the same time, substantial restructuring of their economies has occurred, a feature of which has been a decline in the relative contribution of agriculture to total employment and output. Does agricultural growth have a causal effect on manufacturing growth? AgEcon

Though the role of agricultural growth for manufacturing growth has been at the center of the discourse on economic development, empirically identifying the causal effect of agricultural growth on manufacturing growth has remained illusive for the correlation between the two doesn't necessarily imply causality. This paper attempts to overcome the identification problem. Since agriculture is heavily dependent on the weather, random weather variations are used as instruments to identify the causal impact of agricultural growth on manufacturing growth. Results show that agricultural growth has a significant positive impact on manufacturing growth.
