Extraction and determination of ascorbate and dehydroascorbate from apoplastic fluid of stem of rooted and non-rooted cuttings in relation to the rhizogenesis Braz. J. Plant Physiol.

Starting from semihardwood branches of peach and plum rootstocks (Prunus cerasifera E.) cv. MRS2/5, plum rootstocks (Prunus cerasifera × P. salicina) × (P. cerasifera × P. persica) cv. Ishtarà and olive tree (Olea europaea L.) cv. Frantoio, cuttings were collected and treated with 0 mg.L-1 and 2500 mg.L-1 of indolebutyric acid (IBA) by immersion in the base of the cuttings. After 60 days of planting, the cultivars MRS 2/5, Ishtarà and Frantoio presented a significative difference with relation to the rooting induction by application of the indolebutyric acid (27.5, 47.5 and 41.25 %, respectively), inducing a higher number of roots per cutting without at the same time significantly increasing the length of the roots themselves. First record of the olive bud mite Oxycenus maxwelli (Keifer) (Acari: Eriophyidae) from Brazil Neotropical Entomology

The mite Oxycenus maxwelli (Keifer) (Eriophyidae) is reported for the first time in Brazil infesting olive trees, Olea europaea. Specimens were found on seedlings at Maria da Fé, state of Minas Gerais, in 2007. Although minor symptoms were not noticed, significant damage to plants were observed. There is no reliable evidence of when the mite could have been introduced. It is believed that the mite occurs since the first introductions of olive trees, around 1820, through vegetative propagating material, but the mite remained unnoticed due to the lack of studies with olive trees in Brazil.

Sustainability assessment of olive grove in Andalusia: A methodological proposal AgEcon

Recently the olive sector has had important changes in Andalusia due to both the enlargement and the intensification of farming. The expansion of the olive grove in Andalusia is causing sustainability problems, not only from the socio-economic dimension (profit reduction) but environmental (erosion, water pollution or biodiversity losses). The main objective of this study is to develop a methodology to analyse the sustainability of the olive grove farms in Andalusia. This methodology will allow us to bear with the three dimensions of sustainability (economic, social and environmental) as well as to obtain a precise diagnosis of the olive grove through a selection of a set of indicators.
