Ovule ontogenesis and megasporogenesis in Adesmia latifolia (Spreng.) Vog. (Leguminosae-Papilionoideae) Rev. Bras. Bot.
Moço,Maria C.C.; Mariath,Jorge E.A..
The ovule ontogenesis and the megasporogenesis events were studied under bright field, fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy. The primordium is 3-zonate and gives rise to a hemianatropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate ovule. The archesporium may consist of one or more archesporial cells, but only one undergoes meiosis, forming a linear tetrad. Normally, only a single megaspore is functional in the chalazal position, but occasionally two functional chalazal megaspores arise. The present study provides additional information on embryological characters in the Adesmieae tribe and discusses their taxonomic significance to the Leguminosae family.

Structural aspects of the zygotic embryogenesis of Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret (Myrtaceae) Acta Botanica
Pescador,Rosete; Kerbauy,Gilberto Barbante; Strassburg,Rosali Constantino; Kraus,Jane Elizabeth.
Acca sellowiana has anatropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate ovules. The outer and inner integuments are double-layered except in the micropyle, where they are composed of more layers; the micropyle is zig-zag shaped. The egg apparatus lies at the micropylar pole, and the zynergids present a conspicuous filiform apparatus. The antipodal cells are present in the chalazal region, persisting before the occurrence of double fertilization. The zygote is visible 21 days after pollination; nuclear endosperm is already present. The first mitotic division of the zygote occurs at 24th day. The globular, cordiform and torpedo embryo stages can be seen at 30, 45 and 60 days after pollination, respectively. The mature embryo characterized by the presence of a...

Development of carpels and ovules in Dialypetalanthus fuscescens Kuhlm. (Rubiaceae): an enigmatic taxon Acta Botanica
Figueiredo,Rogério da Costa; Vieira,Ricardo Cardoso; Mariath,Jorge Ernesto de Araújo; Moço,Maria Cecilia de Chiara; Toni,Karen L. G. De.
ABSTRACT Dialypetalanthus is a monospecific genus that occurs in the Amazon Basin of Brazil, Bolivia and Peru and occupies a controversial position among the Rubiaceae. We continue this taxonomic discussion with the overall aim of clarifying the systematic position of D. fuscescens within the Rubiaceae. To accomplish this, we analyzed the ontogeny of its gynoecium, in particular the floral meristem, as well as the development of the carpels and cauline placentation. Gynosporogenesis and the differentiation of the carpellary septa and ovules were also described. Dialypetalanthus fuscescens was classified according to evolutionary diagrams found in the literature. The following characteristics were observed in D. fuscescens: 1) permanence of the floral...

Structure of the stigma and style in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) Biocell
Gotelli,M.M.; Galati,B.G.; Medan,D..
This is the first report of the ultrastructure of the stigma and style during and after anthesis in Helianthus annuus L. using light and transmission electron microscopy. The stigma is bifid with unicellular papillae. There is no secretion of lipids, carbohydrates or proteins at anthesis. The style is semisolid in the upper portion, closer to the stigma, and becomes solid below. Ultrastructural changes on cells of the stigma and the style are described. The transmitting tissue of the ovule is first evident 40 minutes after pollination and persists during the first stages of embryogenesis. Only one pollen tube per micropyle was observed growing through this tissue.
