Therapeutic Alternatives for the Treatment of Infected Pancreatic Necrosis: An Overview International Journal of Morphology
Manterola,Carlos; Urrutia,Sebastián; Apodaca,Franz.
Despite diagnostic and therapeutic advances, the treatment of infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) continues to be a complex problem to solve. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of different surgical alternatives for the treatment of IPN. Articles published between 2000 to 2013, and related to effectiveness of open surgery (OS) and minimally invasive treatmente (MIT) in patients with IPN were evaluated. PubMed, MEDLINE, The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register RCT, DARE, IBECS, SciELO, LILACS, PAHO, WHOLIS, ASERNIP-S, NIHR, HTA, Clinical Excellence, York Health Economic Consortium and Tripdatabase were reviewed, searching systematic reviews (SR), randomized clinical trials (RCT) and observational studies...

Acute pancreatitis and acute renal failure following multiple hornet stings J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Sharma,N.; Balamurugeshan,P. K.; Sharma,A..
Hymenoptera is a class of insects that sting in order to subdue their prey. Humans coming into accidental contact with these insects results in stings that may cause from mild local reaction like weal formation around the sting site to severe systemic reactions such as intravascular hemolysis, acute renal failure, pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, and rarely pancreatitis. We report here the clinical course of a patient who developed concurrent acute pancreatitis and pigment-induced acute renal failure after multiple hornet stings.

Unusual fatal multiple-organ dysfunction and pancreatitis induced by a single wasp sting J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Azad,C; Parmar,VR; Jat,KR.
Acute onset of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is a well-known complication following multiple wasp stings. However, MODS after a single wasp sting has been rarely reported in children and acute pancreatitis have probably never been observed before. Herein we describe the case of a 12-year-old boy who had urticaria and abdominal pain after a single wasp sting. The child gradually developed MODS while his abdominal complaints were worsening. Despite aggressive supportive management, the child did not survive. Afterward, the cause of the acute abdomen was finally diagnosed as acute pancreatitis. Both MODS and pancreatitis following a single wasp sting are very unusual. Thus, although pancreatitis is rarely manifested, it should be suspected after...

Acute pancreatitis associated with lamivudine therapy for chronic B hepatitis BJID
Tuon,Felipe Francisco; Guastini,Cristina Maria de Fátima; Boulos,Maria Ivete Castro.
Hyperamylasemia is a common complication during lamivudine use. We report a case of a pancreatitis following lamivudine therapy. A careful monitoring of amylase levels during treatment with lamivudine is discussed, mainly in the first weeks, considering the cost of this exam and further complication.

Leptospirosis presenting as ascending progressive leg weakness and complicating with acute pancreatitis BJID
Silva,Andre Pacheco; Burg,Luciana Bonnassis; Locatelli,João Felipe Schadeck; Manes,Joice; Crispim,Morgana.
Leptospirosis is a spirochetal bacterial infection of great public health importance. It has a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations which goes from subclinical infection and self-limited anicteric febrile illness (80-90% of all cases) to icteric leptospiropirosis known as Weil's disease. This is a severe disease characterized by hemorrhage, acute renal failure and jaundice. It is uncommon for leptospirosis to present itself as a primary neurological disease. Additionally, acute pancreatitis is an unusual gastrointestinal manifestation. We report a case of leptospirosis presenting as ascending progressive leg weakness and complicating with acute pancreatitis in an adult patient treated at Hospital Universitário, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina....

Dengue hemorrhagic fever complicated by pancreatitis BJID
Fontal,Guido Ricardo Gonzalez; Henao-Martinez,Andres Felipe.
Acute pancreatitis is an atypical complication of dengue fever and is rarely described. We are reporting a case of dengue hemorrhagic fever complicated by acute pancreatitis in a patient with history of diabetes mellitus type 1 and end stage renal disease on hemodialysis.
