Cutaneous papillomas of green turtles: a morphological, ultra-structural and immunohistochemical study in Brazilian specimens Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.

Eleven juvenile green turtles (Chelonia mydas) from Atlantic Ocean, Brazil, with multiple cutaneous papillomatosis were examined. Histologically, the papillomas exhibit stromal hyperplasia proliferation and epithelial proliferation. The epithelial cells had nuclear changes suggestive of viral infection and severe nuclear pleomorphism. A large nuclear halo was present in the cases of epithelial proliferation; in these cells, nuclear features were frequently dyscariotic, without inclusion. All fibropapillomas examined were negative for papillomavirus group-specific antigens (BPV) and herpesvirus group-specific antigens (HSV1 / HSV2) by the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique. Electronic microscopy investigation was negative for papillomaviruses and...

Bovine papillomavirus type 2 in reproductive tract and gametes of slaughtered bovine females BJM
Carvalho,Claudemir de; Freitas,Antonio Carlos de; Brunner,Olga; Góes,Luiz Gustavo Bentim; Cavalcante,Andréa Yaguiu; Beçak,Willy; Santos,Rita de Cassia Stocco dos.
Papillomaviruses are described selectively infecting epithelial tissues and are associated with many forms of cancer in different species. Considering the widespread dissemination of papillomatosis in livestock, interest is being centred on possible forms of viral transmission and respective mechanisms. In the present study, we report the detection of bovine papillomavirus (BPV) DNA sequences in female reproductive tract tissues, fluids and oocytes from slaughtered bovines not afflicted by cutaneous papillomatosis. BPV-2 DNA sequences were found in ovarian and uterine tissues as well as in oocytes, cumulus cells and uterine flushings. The presence of papillomavirus sequences in reproductive organ tissues and fluids shows that viral infection in organisms...

Assis-Brasil,Nathalia Dode de; Marcolongo-Pereira,Clairton; Stigger,Adriana Lucke; Fiss,Letícia; Santos,Bianca Lemos; Coelho,Ana Carolina Barreto; Sallis,Eliza Simone Viégas; Fernandes,Cristina Gevehr; Schild,Ana Lucia.
A retrospective study of equine skin diseases diagnosed in the Laboratório Regional de Diagnóstico, Faculdade de Veterinária, Universidade Federal de Pelotas was conducted between 1978 and 2013. The necropsy and biopsy protocols for horses received for diagnosis were reviewed to determine the prevalence of dermatopathies in southern Brazil. The most prevalent skin diseases in decreasing order were: sarcoid [234/710 (32.9%)], exuberant granulation tissue [81/710 (11.4%)], pythiosis [67/710 (9.4%)], squamous cell carcinoma [55/710 (7.7%)], papillomatosis [33/710 (4.6%)] and habronemiasis [30/710 (4.2%)]. Other skin lesions accounted for 25.3% of all cases studied. The Crioulo breed was the most prevalent [310/710 (43.6%)]. Horses aged between 2-5 years old...
