AS CONSEQÜÊNCIAS DOS ACORDOS DE LIVRE COMÉRCIO SOBRE O SETOR DE LÁCTEOS NO BRASIL AgEcon
Alvim, Augusto Mussi.

The application of spatial models in the analysis of bilateral trade flows: An alternative to the Armington approach for the world sugar market AgEcon
Nolte, Stephan.
This paper suggests spatial models as an alternative to the Armington approach to model bilateral trade. While the use of spatial models has been accepted for decades, they are rarely chosen for such analyses. However, problems inherent in the application of the Armington approach can be overcome through the use of spatial models. To demonstrate, a simple spatial model of the world sugar market is built and used to simulate a multilateral liberalization scenario. Additionally, an identical model is constructed, applying the Armington approach. The results of the spatial model of the sugar market are found to be more plausible than those generated by the Armington-based model.

Impacts of a liberalization in the USA market for Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice: why Florida´s producers are so afraid? AgEcon
Fracalanza, Paulo Sergio; Ferreira, Adriana Nunes; Neves, Marcos Fava.
This study aims at examining the resource allocation and welfare implications of the reduction of barriers in the United States market for Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice (FCOJ) imported from Brazil. The present paper is organized as follows: section 2 presents an overview of the main features of the market and current trade regime for orange juice, as well as the possible impacts of liberalization within FTAA and with the European Union; section 3 describes the partial equilibrium model of imperfect substitute goods used to estimate the impact of trade liberalization in the United States, on prices and quantities and on welfare; in section 4 two possible scenarios for liberalization are designed using the large country model. The last section summarizes...

UNCERTAIN YIELDS IN SECTORAL WELFARE ANALYSIS: AN APPLICATION TO GLOBAL WARMING AgEcon
Lambert, David K.; McCarl, Bruce A.; He, Quifen; Kaylen, Michael S.; Rosenthal, Wesley; Chang, Ching-Cheng; Nayda, W.I..
Agriculture operates in an uncertain environment. Yields, prices, and resource usage can change dramatically from year to year. However, most analyses of the agricultural sector, at least those using mathematical programming methods, assume decision making is based on average yields, ignoring yield variability. This study examines how explicit consideration of stochastic yield outcomes influence a sector analysis. We develop a model that can be used for stochastic sector analysis. We extend the risk framework developed by Hazell and others to incorporate discrete yield outcomes as well as consumption activities dependent upon yield outcomes. An empirical application addresses a comparison between sector analysis with and without considerations of the...
