Silva,EP da; Rabello,CBV; Lima,MB de; Arruda,EMF de; Ludke,JV; Ludke,MCMM.
The aim of this study was to determine the chemical composition, amino acid content and energy values, as well as to quantify the passage rate in the digestive tract of three different poultry offal meals (POM), in two experiments carried out with broilers. In the first experiment, metabolizable energy values were determined (AMEn and TMEn) using the method of total excreta collection. In this experiment, 150 15-d-old male and female broilers were distributed according to a completely randomized experimental design with 5 treatments of 5 replicates of 6 birds each. The following treatments were applied: a reference diet, three test diets consisting of 250 g/kg of the tested ingredient (POM) + 750 g/kg of the reference diet, and one group of birds fasted...

Araújo,Karoline Guedes; Villela,Severino Delmar Junqueira; Leonel,Fernando de Paula; Tamy,Wagner Pessanha; Gomes,Raphael dos Santos; Abreu,Matheus Lima Corrêa.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the parameters related to the digestion of the fiber from silages of four corn hybrids (BX1280, SHS4070, 2B433, and DKB390) developed for silage production. Four rumen-cannulated castrated Holstein × Zebu crossbred cattle with approximate initial weight of 400 kg were distributed in a Latin square design. To determine the fiber passage rate and degradability, the techniques of chromium-mordant and in situ incubation of the neutral detergent fiber of the silages in nylon bags were used. The profiles of concentration of the marker in the feces were described by the generalized two-compartment model. Corn hybrid DKB390 is the most indicated for production of better-quality silages, because its fiber is more...

Silva Cabral,Luciano da; Campos Valadares Filho,Sebastião de; Detmann,Edenio; Zervoudakis,Joanis Tilemahos; Galati,Rosemary Lais; Paula Sousa,Daniel de; Souza,Alexandre Lima de.
This study aimed to validate the estimates of the ruminal degradation of total carbohydrates (TC), ruminal and total digestion of fibrous carbohydrates (FC) and microbial nitrogen flow in the abomasum evaluated by in vitro gas production technique (IVGP). Six ruminally and abomasally cannulated steers arranged in a double 3 × 3 latin square were used to measure described parameters with indigestible neutral detergent fiber (INDF) utilization as marker. Total and fibrous carbohydrates degraded in the rumen were estimated through digestion rates obtained for fibrous (FC) and non fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) using in vitro gas production technique, corrected for its respective ruminal and postruminal passage rates. The estimation of the total digestion of FC...

Replacement of wheat bran with spineless cactus in sugarcane-based diets for steers R. Bras. Zootec.
Conceição,Maria Gabriela da; Ferreira,Marcelo de Andrade; Campos,José Maurício de Souza; Silva,Janaina de Lima; Detmann,Edenio; Siqueira,Michelle Christina Bernardo de; Barros,Leonardo José Assis de; Costa,Cleber Thiago Ferreira.
ABSTRACT The effect of replacing wheat bran with spineless cactus (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) in sugar cane-based diets on the intake of nutrients, feeding behavior, and rumen digestibility of steers was assessed using digested samples collected from the omasum. Five crossbred steers (1/2 Holstein-Zebu) were fitted with cannulas in the rumen and then assigned to a 5 × 5 Latin square design. Samples of omasal digesta were collected for three days. Rumen was evacuated via the rumen cannula to determine the rumen pool of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), indigestible NDF (iNDF), intake (ki), passage (kp) and degradation (NDF) rates, and the passage of iNDF (kpi). Nutrient intake displayed a quadratic effect, with maximum intakes of DM (5.73 kg...

Effects of different sources of protein on digestive characteristics, microbial efficiency, and nutrient flow in dairy goats R. Bras. Zootec.
Felisberto,Nivea Regina de Oliveira; Rodrigues,Marcelo Teixeira; Bomfim,Marco Aurélio Delmondes; Matos,Rogério da Silva; Cordeiro,Ana Gabriela Pombo Celles; Silva,Márcia Maria Cândido da.
Diets formulated with protein sources presenting different resistance to ruminal degradation were compared by evaluating ruminal parameters, production and microbial efficiency and nutrients flow to the omasum in goats. Eight rumen cannulated non-lactating, non-pregnant goats were distributed in a 4 × 4 Latin square design with two replicates. Treatments consisted of four diets where different sources of plant protein accounted for the major protein source named soybean meal, source of higher ruminal degradability, and three other sources of higher resistance of degradation: roasted soybean, corn gluten meal, and cottonseed cake. Amounts of rumen protein were similar among rations; however, flows of dry matter, protein and non-fiber carbohydrate to omasum...
