| The reproductive and feeding biology of Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro were studied in the upper Uruguay River, southern Brazil. Fourteen sites were surveyed seasonally between 2000 and 2006. A total of 3,427 fish were caught, being 2,015 females and 1,412 males. The sex ratio was 1.66:1 (female:male) in lentic habitats (p<0.05), but showed equal proportion in lotic and transition habitats. Feeding activity was similar for both sexes and showed little variation along the year. The analysis of stomach contents of 2,401 stomach showed that "fish" was the most consumed resource in all different habitats, corresponding to 99% of the food in the gravimetric analyzes. | Fish diet studies contribute to understanding resource partitioning and community trophic structure. The present paper characterizes the diet of “peixe-cachorro” species Acestrorhynchus britskii and A. lacustris in Sobradinho reservoir, Bahia State, Brazil. Bimonthly samples (November 2006 to July 2008) were taken in the lotic, transition and lentic stretches of the reservoir, using gillnets overnight. A total of 899 A. britskii and 476 A. lacustris stomachs were analyzed, 70% of which were empty. Their content indicated the species are predominantly piscivorous, with 18 prey fish species identified. | Parâmetros de crescimento e mortalidade foram estimados para Oligosarcus hepsetus capturados no Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, Núcleo Santa Virgínia. A distribuição mensal das frequências de comprimento foi analisada pelo método ELEFAN, através do programa FISAT, utilizando-se a versão sazonal da curva de crescimento de Von Bertalanffy. A taxa instantânea de mortalidade natural foi calculada pela fórmula empírica proposta por Pauly. Os parâmetros estimados foram K = 0,72, L∞ = 23,3 cm, C = 0,3, Wp = 0,7 e M = 1,25. Estes parâmetros corroboram as características de uma espécie predadora com longo período reprodutivo, desova parcelada sem cuidado com a prole e que vive em um rio típico de Mata Atlântica. |
