Floral Ontogeny in Scirpus, Eriophorum and Dulichium (Cyperaceae), with Special Reference to the Perianth Naturalis
Vrijdaghs, A.; Caris, P.; Goetghebeur, P.; Smets, E..
Background and Aims Based on molecular phylogenetic analysis, it has been suggested recently that the Cyperaceae comprises only two subfamilies: the Mapanioideae and the Cyperoideae. In most flowers of the Cyperoideae, the whorl of inner stamens is reduced, resulting in tetracyclic flowers. In the more primitive (scirpoid) genera within the Cyperoideae, the perianth consists of two polysymmetric whorls, whereas the perianth parts in the more derived genera have been subject to modifications and/or reduction. Comparative studies of the many silky hairs of Eriophorum and of the eight bristles of Dulichium have given rise to much discussion about their homology. Methods The spikelet and floral ontogeny in freshly collected inflorescences was investigated...

Flower and floral trichome morphology of species of Dyckia Schult. f. (Bromeliaceae, Pitcairnioideae), and their importance to species characterization and genus taxonomy Acta Botanica
Carvalho,Jordano Dorval Tavares de; Essi,Liliana; Oliveira,João Marcelo Santos de.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a morphological analysis of the flower and floral trichomes of three rare species of Dyckia: Dyckia ibicuiensis, D. polyclada and D. racinae. Flowers at anthesis were collected from natural populations and subjected to morphometric and microscopic analysis. Among the most representative features for Dyckia are: morphometrics of individual floral parts; the general configuration of the androecium and gynoecium; the degree of fusion of the stigmatic lobes; the morphology of the ovules, especially in relation to the chalazal appendix; and the presence and constitution of peltate trichomes in the perianth, which exhibited a polymorphism not previously reported for Dyckia. The characters were effective at describing each species,...

Anatomía y desarrollo de la flor estaminada, microsporogénesis y microgametogénesis en especies de Lophophytum (Balanophoraceae) en la Argentina Boletín de la Sociedad
Sato,Héctor A; Gonzalez,Ana M.

Morphological and anatomical features of the flowers and fruits during the development of Chamissoa altissima (Jacq.) Kunth (Amaranthaceae) BABT
Oyama,Sayuri de Oliveira; Souza,Luiz Antonio de; Muneratto,Júnior Cesar; Albiero,Adriana Lenita Meyer.
The morphology and structure of the flowers and fruits of Chamissoa altissima (Jacq.) Kunth during the development were analyzed. The plant material was fixed in FAA 50, embedded in historesin and sectioned according to standard techniques. The flowers presented tepals with betalain and homogeneous mesophyll; receptacular nectary; anthers with epidermis, endothecium, one middle layer, and uninucleate tapetum; and monocarpelar ovary with homogeneous mesophyll. The fruit was a circumscissile capsule, presented the same number of cellular layers that the ovary, and possessed subendocarpic sclerenchyma. The seed was bitegmic, exotestal and perispermic.

Morphology and anatomy of the Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arrab. ex I. M. Johnst diaspore (Boraginaceae) BABT
Souza,Luiz Antonio de.
This study analyzed the morphology and anatomy of the Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arrab. ex I. M. Johnst diaspore. The objectives were: the structural analysis of the calyx and corolla that persisted in the ripe fruit and acted in the anemocoric dispersion process; the vascularization of the gynoecium for better understanding of the carpel/locule number of the ovary; nectary structure; and the anatomical analysis of the developmental pericarp and seed for better definition of the fruit type. The results showed that the perianth had aerenchyma and the ovary was 2- 4- locule forming endothelium and false septum. The fruit was drupoid nuculanium and the seed was exotestal.
