Quantitative trait loci mapping of pubescence density and flowering time of insect-resistant soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) Genet. Mol. Biol.

Analysis of antibiosis resistance to common cutworm (Spodoptera litura Fabricius) in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) has progressed significantly, but the immediate cause remains unknown. We performed quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis of pubescence density and plant development stage because these factors are assumed to be the immediate cause of resistance to cutworm. The QTLs for pubescence appeared to be identical to the previously detected the Pd1 and Ps loci controlling pubescence density. We found no candidate loci for flowering time QTLs, although one could be identical to the gene governing the long-juvenile trait or to the E6 loci controlling maturity. None of the QTLs overlapped with the QTLs for antibiosis resistance.

A review of the introduced forest pests in Brazil PAB

Abstract: Special attention should be given to forest plantings in order to minimize the probability of exotic pest introduction and, consequently, of production losses. The objective of this review was to present, under a historic perspective, the main exotic insects that harm the Brazilian forest sector. Therefore, to better describe the phytosanitary context of introduced forest pests in Brazil, the main information regarding these insects was gathered here. Biological Limits on Agricultural Intensification: An Example from Resistance Management AgEcon

When the application of pesticides places selective evolutionary pressure on pest populations, it can be useful to plant refuge areas-crop areas intended to encourage the breeding of pests that are susceptible to the pesticide. Renewed interest in refuge areas has arisen with recent advances in biotechnology and genetically modified (GM) crops. In this paper, we use a simple model of the evolution of pest resistance to characterize the socially optimal refuge strategy for managing pest resistance. We demonstrate some interesting analogies with other models of renewable resource management, such as those of fisheries. Gall midge is a major problem in the upper Northern part, a glutinous rice line PRE04012-20-1-1-1 was derived from a single cross between Sahm Samai and PRE96011-SPT-1-2-2-1-1 since 2004. The farmer field trials had tested in 2011-2013. In the wet season the high potential yield was 1,043 kg/rai while the average yield was 703 kg/rai which is non significant different from 710 kg/rai of RD14 and 704 kg/rai of SPT1. In the dry season the high potential yield was 916 kg/rai while the average yield of PRE04012-20-1-1-1 and SPT1 were 714 kg/rai, but lower than RD14 (759 kg/rai) by 6 percent. Evaluation of the ability of rice varieties in resistance to brown plant hopper was performed using seed box screen test. The brown plant hopers (BPH) were collected from rice paddy fields in Phitsanulok, Chainat, and Ang Thong Province. From cluster analysis at level 0.8, there were three different groups classified by the different level of rice plant damage after treated by the insects. The three different level of damage were graded by the ability in resistance to the BPH as resistance, moderately resistance and susceptible. Considering in biotype of the BPH, the results indicated that there were variety of BPH biotypes in each samples collected from the three different provinces.
